Kind of interesting and disappointing at the same time. There are already very good ships of this class that are available from Niko and Kobo Hiryu. I was hoping that they would have come out with the Yaeyama. Itsukushima, or a Wakataka instead. Something that hasn't seen the light of day in plastic.

Oh well. It is, what it is.

Great to see. Niko continues to produce a resin kit of the sister-ship Shioya (circa 1943) in resin. The Kobu Hiryu kit is hard to find.

Ship # Ship Builder Laid down Launched Completed Fate
219 Ashizuri (???) Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Nagasaki Shipyard 08-07-1941 16-05-1942 30-01-1943 Sunk by USS Puffer at Sulu Sea 0633?N 12255?E 05-06-1944.
220 Shioya (???) Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Nagasaki Shipyard 01-04-1942 08-03-1943 09-11-1943 Sunk by USS Rasher at west of Manado 08-06-1944.

Bob Pink, we sit at our keyboards with similar thoughts. Too funny. Sorry for the redundant post!

Hm. I think NIKO's Shioya is already pretty good... they should have made one of the mentioned minelayers or at least a Sunosaki-class combat support ship. That would have been pretty similar to the Ashizuri class.

This is good news. I wonder if they'll release a Shioya too or weather this kit has parts included to build Shioya too or not. It may lead to the development of a dedicated photo etch set wich would be useful for the non plastic version too.

Has anybody found a Trumpeter 1/700 HMS Warspite - 1942 in the wild yet? A few places have them up for Pre-order but I don't think i've seen any in stock yet.

It hasn't been released yet, and appears it wouldn't be until January. Have updated the list with the new date.

Here is a photo of hull, flight deck and island of BAKU from HobbyBoss. A waterline plate and an underwater hull unfortunately missing. The modeler must themselves build a waterline plate.

Anybody know if this will be better or worse than the Airfix offering?

I would think the fit of the Trumpeter Daring would be far better than the Airfix one. The Airfix one requires a massive amount of trimming and sanding just to get a flush fit. On another note the Trumpeter hull looks like a scaled up Dragon Daring.

I had see here some pictures from the new Diether Von Roeder Z-17 from Zvezda.

May be the kit will be a good base for modelling but it looks to me a little bit naked when compared with Trumpeter and Dragon Zerstres. There is some more informations about it?

Best Regards,

Ricardo
It looks like Zvezda really fudged the design of the AA platform on the second funnel and/or the placement of the lifeboats under them. The placement of the forward boat davits don't make sense as the bow of the lifeboat is completely under the AA platform. I assume there are probably more inaccuracies and it might be better to convert a Dragon or Trumpeter Z Class.

It would be a mistake not to go for one of the Dragon Z class kit. They are more than better than all the others.
