Thank you John, There are good news for carrier builders. Gwylan models has in its future release list a CVF kit in 1/700.

Nektarios, the weathering really adds to the realistic look. Looks great!

That is great news. They seem to be focusing on those kind of modern ships in 1/700, that no one else has had on their radar. The Steregushchy that was featured here a few days ago looks fantastic.

Would be interesting to know what else they have up their sleeve in the future. Personally, I'd be hoping for something exotic as, say, Formidable, Sa'ar 5 or Valour class of ships. A De Zeven Provincien kit would also be nice.

Just imagine a diorama of a CVF, escorted by a couple of Type 45 DDGs and an Astute class SSN.

Nice idea...and with Dragon's Daring class out soon, you can actually build the diorama. Any plans of building one of those ships soon? I thought I remembered WEM also having a resin Type 45 planned? Anyhow, I'm glad a kit will soon be released. One less ship to scratchbuild.

WEM Type 45 was cancelled as soon as the DML kit was announced. HLJ has already shipped mine.

I thought I'd post a preview of what I'm working on at the moment.

It's going to be the Roald Amundsen, one of currently four Fridtjof Nansen class frigates of the Norwegian Navy. Except for a 1:200 paper model, I have not seen any other model of this ship class, unfortunately, since I think it's quite a good looking ship - looks a bit top-heavy at first glance, but I think that changes after a closer look. I really like the 'triangular edge' at the aft superstructure instead of the usual corners.

She's almost ready for the paint shop:

With all of these scratch builds, has it ever crossed your mind to submit prototypes to resin companies for them to mass produce?

thanks for the kind words. Yes, built from scratch. Seems that this is where my new interest lies.

I have been asked before whether I'd consider getting the models put into a mold. To be honest, I just don't think that they are quite good enough. Especially the hull is nowhere near perfect. Since I build without any plans, everything is done by calculations (and lots and lots of sanding) and therefore resulting in only a rough estimate of the actual ship. I imagine that a prototype sent to a company for mass production should be much more accurate than what I my ships.

Even though I know exactly where the imperfections are, I can live with them, since it's just for myself and as long as it resembles the real thing more than it doesn't, I'm happy.

Heiko i would buy one kit like that if you ever considered making copies of it.

Today i finished the PE upgrade/weathering on CVN-73.

Next in line is CV-66. I m also continuing building aircraft for the carrier airwings 6 and 17.

your builds look so real for that size.

Looks really nice Nektarios. Personally, I don't think I would have the motivation to go back to my old ships and try to improve them. That is why my USS Princeton (first kit built) nowadays serves as an experimenting platform and is slowly being scrapped.

If only scratchbuilding didn't take so long I would consider it and you'd be the first to get a copy. It's too late now since she's already got paint on her.
