Nailed it! It was hilarious as people at my school went through all other aircraft before pointing at the Sukhoi. The theory of the plane on Enterprise is that the Navy needed more aircraft (Many get destroyed during the opening weeks of WWIII), so they bought ~70 MiGs and Sukhois to complete some airwings. I'll have the full story posted later on the What-if board soon.Cliffy B wrote:Its a Sukhoi!
Nice job on the Big E man, nice and clean. Love the flight deck texture

Also, thanks for all the nice comments. I can't wait till I get on to building Ranger and Midway, since they will be total scratch-builds.

Hi Ed,
Carriers in the 50s were haze gray and the flight decks were a blue gray, I believe it is Flight Deck 21.
Here is my Hancock CVA-19 in the SCB-27C config.
http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery ... index.html
I think that the Essex in the SCB-125 would be this color scheme as well.

Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
To my fellow carrier builders
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't banish me, I decieded to take a break from the carrier builds to work a little bit on a "What-if" build in 350 scale. BUTTTTT this build is going to be a new designation of type of ship a B.A.S.H. {Battleship Amphioubis Support Heavy}
This build will take a SOUTH DAKOTA CLASS battleship (MASS.) and cross it with a LHD, I know what your thinking, it will never work, but if the consept I have in my head comes to life into plastic it will be a really neat looking ship, yes it does have a flight deck, looks like a LPD but longer and will operate the following A/C, VS-22's, CH-53's, Cobra's CH-60's, mainly a bunch of Marine a/c. The flight deck will only be for vertical take-off and jet a/c will be able to land/ take-off, to much ship in the way
I really don't know why I started this build but I had a thought, a broken ship and some plastic stock, then the dremial feel into my hand, oh darn a BASH is underway.
I will post pics very very very soon, probably tomarrow.

I'm worried about myself, I think I have fallen off the deep end. I wanted to get pictures done today but didn't get a chance. But the good news is I'm off on Fri. and Sat. so I hope to get really into the build and get the pictures done then. I knew that you would understand, and I did put a flight deck on it just for you Ed.

I was beginning to feel like I was the only one building a ship like that... (USS Kentucky) Of course, mine is a BBGN-CVE... I might have to take out the guided missile ability if the ship gets any more crowded in the mid-section...JimVarnellABH2USN wrote:To my fellow carrier builders

Finally!
I have been on the road every week but 4 now since Jan 1 and the shipyard has been pretty idle. I finally got CVG-101 done for my 1/350 SCB-27A Kearsarge Korean War Fit.

I just noticed how much dust is on the Corsairs and Skyraiders. That is how long it took to complete that airwing. A little over a year. Ooooof!

Great lookin airwing there Mark. Lots of decal work. I just posted some pics of my WWII April 1942 airwing for ESSEX in 1/700 on a different forum. Those airwings sure take a lot of time. Those close up shots really show all the zits in mine. Maybe my camera's too good. I gotta do some more modern carriers so I can get away from those 1/700 PE props. Darn near lost my eyeballs.
