I received my Ocean Sprite (or is it Spirit) accessories the other day.

Ordered:
1) Protective Sandbags
2) 12.7 cm guns

Both of these are top notch and highly recommended. I haven't taken the sandbags off their resin blocks, but have played with the 12.7 cm guns. The fit between the resin base and resin portion of the guns is borderline ratcheted. I strongly recommend picking these up for your IJN builds.

Pictures will be posted once I finish my 1/350 Chevalier and 1/700 Lassen. I plan on starting a Kirishima with a TON of aftermarket stuff to make up for the age of the kit (90's Hasegawa).

Thanks.

It clicks. You can adjust the angle of the gun and... click it into place. The fit is absolutely perfect.

Search eBay for "OceanSprite" (which, btw, is why I asked on the spelling of the company earlier.) There is one guy in Hong Kong that regularly sells the stuff.

The 'Ocean Spirit' brand, you can also order from this Australian retailer www.bnamodelworld.com I bought online from them several 1/700 IJN PE sets for my future IJN ship model builds.
I like sniffing plastic........ and the instruction sheet.

Thx for posting, Bill. I knew that Yamashita produces a 20cm turret but I've not obtained a set. Not convinced they are better than what comes with some of the kits. OTOH, this 15.5cm turret look really good. Apparently, Yamashita is producing a number of 1.700 and 1/350 IJN accessories: http://www.1999.co.jp/search_e.asp?Typ1 ... hita+Hobby

A surprising mis-step for the other-wise exquisite FineMolds 1/700 NanoDread line is the recent WA-16 IJN minesweeping apparatus set. It comes with a DD paravane winch, paravane davit, two sized paravanes, and float. (Boxart and set courtesy of the FineMolds site). Unfortunately, the winch is overscale and berefit of its external cover.

More problematic are the paravane davits. They come exquisitely detailed, but are again overscale. Their size makes it impossible to fit properly on the deck on a DD. A quick fix is to cut off the bases, as well as the bottom of the davit, and use smaller bases.

The photo examples include the FM davits and paravanes laid down on a deck, comparison shots with the more properly scaled versions from the waterline consortium small vessel ordinance set, and my fix after cutting off the bases and utilizing the bases from the waterline consortium set. FWIW.

I received the new PitRoad NE06 set and was struck by its similarity to their E-13 IJN CV fret. A quick web search confirmed a suspicion; in the same way that the E-13 set was made for their Chitose/Chiyoda kits and then released separately, this set is part of their new Ryuho kit, and then also released sepaerately.

The NE06 set is not quite as comprehensive as the older E13 set but, it certainly benefits from slide molding and finer execution. A comparison of the Type 94HA directors (also available on the NE01 set) and the enclosed 12.7cm turrets shows how more advanced the NE06 set is.

Hello,
I'd like to add some shots of the Fine Molds "Nano Dread" 1:700 USN quad Bofors I just bought.
These are sooo detailed they can easily be compared against their photo etched counterparts.

Remember... this is 1:700 scale

Well, that's pretty cool. As much as I love brass mushroom vents, they are a pain to set down correctly. Yamashita has issued some interesting items. Anybody use them?

As a follow-up to the comparison of the quadruple Type 92 Mod 4 torpedo mount accessories for the Type 93 "Long Lance" torpedo posted on the previous page, I am posting some shots and thoughts on the new FineMolds WA-20 set, which contains two frets of parts for twin, triple and quad versions of various IJN TT mounts. All the shots here are contrasted with the PitRoad quad mount from the new NE04 or 05 sets. Both the FM and PR versions are comparable in detail, scale and accuracy. Differences have to do with the molding of the shield (the FM version has sides that have to be glued together) and extent of detail. They are very comparable, and it really comes down to personal preferences.

I prefer the one piece housing offered by PitRoad, which means no seams to correct, and that the detail is not quite so emphasized as in the FM version. On the other hand, I like the base provided for the FM mount. PR molded its torpedoes separately, which eases painting but, makes them look a little overscale when viewed from the side.

Maybe overscale is the wrong thing to say. The actual TT tube was open at one end, with the warhead exposed from the underside. But the body of the torpedo was housed within the tube, so that the entire assembly appears as one unit from the side, save for the exposed warhead. The PR version makes the torpedo appear to hang lower then the bottom of the tube. However, realistically, how many folks are going to be looking that closely to see if everything is on the same horizontal plane?
