If you measure it its something like 1/730 but the difference is small with 1:700.

Thanks, kidcurrie and Nektarios. Is the Arii Coral Sea kit still available? I looked around a little on the net and couldn't find anywhere that carried it.

I can get you one here in uk and bring it over when i come over, or look on Ebay, type in 1/800, you will also find CVN-65 on there with modern island, which is correct size for 1/720.

Is there an actual Coral Sea kit or would I have to modify an Arii Midway kit?

Well, I am the last one to be called "qualified" in the field of carriers, but didn't Ray Bean fom Canada announce that Dragon is up to release an angle-deck Midway in 1/700 this year: Maybe it's worth the wait?

Hi Guido,
Even if Midway is released by a company its still a very different ship than Coral Sea. So unless someone releases a real Coral Sea the choices are conversion or scratchbuilding. It would be really nice if someone released a Coral Sea but I think that it is more probable to see in plastic carriers that can be reissued as their sisterships. Forrestal class is an example. Midway might be an exception because it would sell very well especially in Japan since it has been based in Yokosuka. I wish you are right.

Hey gtb, that will be an awesome dio, do you intend having a sea base for them,
For info incase you do not already know, Nimitz is lead ship of Strike group Eleven, under her control is DESRON-23(The Little Beavers) made up of the following units USS Princeton CG-59, USS John Paul Jones DDG-53, USS Higgins DDG-76 and USS Chafee DDG-90. I and i would say all who visit here look forward to seeing more as your build progresses.

Hi all, well finally got USS Coral Sea and Ranger to base port, Spent 2 hours in security, missed connecting flight all because i average one trip a month to see my future wife, after 2 hours of waiting i answered exact same questions as asked at the first check, 5 mins in total and no bag search. no call allowed to tell my GF that i wouldnt be arriving on the scheduled flight, eventually arrived 100 mins late, kinda took the gloss off the day we closed the deal on our new house.
Anyways here are a few pics for you all,
New Years day 1991 my arrival for my day on USS Midway, pics were taken in the Lynx so are not top notch
I see spot 3
More from my day onboard later.
John
Getting nearer, notice the guy working on the JDB with the safety jacks in place.
