Not much progress but, work has been slow on Essex
I've had to trim off the alignment pins on the gun decks as they wouldn't line up properly. Essex is gonna be a putty queen as there's plenty of gaps along the main deck

I just got back from a mini vacation with my family at Newport, RI. As I was driving I came to the top of a hill and I could see an aircraft carrier with an empty deck that looked abandoned. It was far off the road and probably on USN land and I wouldnt be able to get close to take a few pictures of it.
Any idea which one she is? There was a group trying to save the Saratoga and they couldnt raise enough money and they lost her. Has she been scrapped yet? Could this be the Saratoga awaiting her final fate?
What ever happened to the USS Kennedy was the group from Maine able to secure her as a museum ship?
Thanks Roger DD-555/DD-473

I do know that Kennedy and Kitty Hawk are currently sitting in Philly and the Saratoga is in Rhode Island along with the Connie. They are currently stripping the Connie and Sara. They are still trying to raise the money to turn JFK into a museum. Not sure where they are on this. More than likely you saw the Sara, I think they may have towed the Connie already.

Normal?! I'm not sure "normal" people do what we do. At least that's what my C-in-C says. LOL.

Thanks fellas

This is a fun build. Kinda nice doing an oldie buit, a goodie

Being a filler queen was expected.
Only thing is, I wish there were replacement a/c for this

Need more Banshees & Furies. Need to check my references to refresh my memory on the other a/c that were aboard in 1958. THink there were F4Ds & Spads too. I do know there was the Aj-2 Savages of VAH-7 aboard & only 3 of them...

Ed, it's looking good from here. Is your hull warped at all? Mine was and i tried all sorts to straighten it out, hair dryer, hot water, brute force but it kept on working its way back, even waterlining it had no real effect.
I've got four of these kits so could probably rustle up some additional planes in fact I've also got a couple of boxes of Starfighter Skyraiders that came in a deal but are surplus to requirements. Did yours come with any Trackers / Traders as if you want to do a swap I could do with some more, that is if it ever actually gets finished.

Well hello there stranger!!

Thanks for the comments. No warpage of the hull

Best I can suggest is make some sort of a jig for your hull & place it inside the jig after hitting it with heat/hot water.
I have a Forrestal which is also a 1957 & will be done up in the 1959-61 era No Trackers/Traders with them. Sorry.
I'll definately need some Spads for both builds sein' how I only got like 4 per kit
Need F2H-3/4 Banshees, Cougars & of course, Whales for the Forrestal.
