Hi Stefan

Youve got here an excellent work! :thumbs_up_1:
I really liked your approach on hull construction... may I ask how did you managed to cut the hull sections?... as cutting through 4mm styrene is not an easy task!
Keep us informed... I know Ill come back to see more, for sure.

Hi,

Love your build, deck shots with the railing beginning to go in look really good, it is going to be an amazing model.

Could you please confirm where you found the plans for your build, I cannot find them on the site you provided a link to and there is nothing but a few random fittings on Loyalhanna. In short, there seems to be zip, and I want a go! (Sulk, Sulk!)

Looking forward to your next post very much.

...they changed the site layout so my link doesn't match anymore.

Try hnsa.org => Resources => Manuals and Documents => Booklets of General Plans page

Best regards
Stefan

Many thanks for that, that's brilliant. I was hoping for hull lines, but I have found a link for these, not very big but I think I can clean it up and sort something out.

There is a Castle Class Corvette memorial website and they say that for 11 you can order a set of plans for the Castle Class from the member secretary. Does anyone know if these plans are any good, or are they the same thing but on paper?

Again, many thanks for the information, all squirreled away for later use!

Where did you find that? I did a lot of research in the www but didn't find any plan sets offered for sale.

Hello,
If you search for "Castle Class Frigate", you should find plans for HMS Hedingham Castle, post war, (F 386) but the drawing has hull lines and they can be scaled up.

Maybe I can post link:http://www.shipbucket.com/forums/viewto ... f=12&t=366
James W.

Dry docked:
1/72 HMCS Assiniboine DDE 234-1960
1/72 HMCS Ottawa DDE 229-1960
1/72 HMCS St. Catharines-River Class Frigate-1944
On the slipway:
1/72 HMCS Camrose-Flower Class Corvette-1943
1/72 HMCS Trillium-Flower Class Corvette-1942

Thanks James for that link.
I'd already found that plan before starting my build and prepared the 3d model according to it in my first attempt.
Unfortunately the plan is nicely looking however the lines are entirely inaccurate, making the classy swan look like a pregnant duck ;)
Have a look:

That's why I redraw the lines plan for my model following the General Arrangement Plan from HNSA.org website, thus looking like this:

Just finished painting (airbrushing) the upper Decks.
It took me a very long time as I was messing a lot with those Revell Aqua Colors, partly because some were obviously too old and claggy, not producing a smooth surface even after dilution and extensive stirring.
Partly because I made some silly flaws with the masking tape, producing sprinkles on already finished surfaces.
So I had to paint the dividing line between aft deck and bulwark twice. And that was a really tricky job because of all those stanchions...

For the steel decks forward and aft i used a dark grey, for those parts coated with "semtex" I mixed a greyish green, hoping I fairly fits the original.

Thanks a lot Scott and Richard.
I'm doing my very best but I have to admit that paintwork isn't my favorite subject.
Here come my latest achievements.

Piping of the funnel:

Still wasn't satisfied with that funnel-top-grid and made a new attempt (No.3!)

I was a little bit startled about the mounting positions of the two ensign gaffs.
Not a very prominent place but I checked a lot of fotos and it's exactly where they were fitted.

That's a very challenging paint job to do well. I'd say you pulled it off very nicely! Well done!

A fantastic model and compares extremely well with the actual ship. If I am seeing the modelling material correctly it is Plasticard, and just goes to show how versatile this is. Looking forward to your further posts and photos. Mike

Beautiful work! Since this is a static model check out Archer Transfers. He prints resin rivets on decal paper. It really looks good. It's oriented toward model railroad, armor, and some aircraft, but the rivet rows are what you need for the (I guess) rubbing strakes/plates on the side of the hull.

I hope this helps

Hi everybody
and thanks a lot for all your kind remarks.
Randy, thanks as well for your advice about rivets.
I only decided not to model any rivets because I neither think it possible to display all those millions of rivets of the original (of course) nor do I like to show only some rivets here and there just for decoration. I've seen many contemporary shipyard-models that hadn't any rivets either, so for me it's OK like that.
During the last weeks my progress was rather modest - just some paintwork of deck fittings:

Hi Stefan
You have been a massive inspiration to my own 1/72 r/c Castle scratch build over the past months. Would like to share a pic of my boat but can't work out how to post it!
Best wishes.

Hello Tertius,

maybe you try this site: http://picr.de/
Although it's mainly in german, it is quite simple: Just choose file, push upload, finish.
Finally you have to copy and paste the links into your posting.

Best regards
Stefan
