I've had an Italeri Nimitz on semi-permanent hiatus for awhile now that I just got re-interested in starting again, and the pics in this thread now have me more excited about it than ever. Great stuff from everyone!
kidcurrie, do you mind a couple of questions? Specifically, about your planned Saratoga. One, does Starfighter do a sheet for a Desert Storm CVW-17? (It's so hard to keep up with their releases.) And two, how accurate is Italeri's Saratoga right out of the box, and how much work is involved with correcting it? (*he asks, visions of the nightmare of fixing Revell's 1/542 Forrestal still fresh in his head, years later*)
Like I said, I was planning on getting back to work on that Nimitz, but if there's decals available for the Saratoga's airwing, I'll switch to that in a heartbeat...

Hi DB, afraid that there are no decals available for Sara's airwing during Desert Storm, i am getting as much info/pics together as i can to hopefully make them myself, i will help you with the info for your build of Sara, so go with your Nimitz for now, and the person for Nimitz questions and help is Nektarios, due to the fact he has built so many, check out his posts, and he will gladly help you, as will i. feel free to IM, or email me.
Regards
John

Okay, thanks--guess I'll stick with the Nimitz for now, after all. Planning on doing it as the GW in 2004. The Starfighter CVW-7 decals for '96 will give me everything I need for everything but the Tomcats, and I've already got the artwork together to make those myself (the Pukin Dogs were aboard for both cruises, but the markings differed enough to make me want to replace them). Just gotta get a couple of in-progress 1/48 Tomcats finished off first, before I can really get going full-bore on it...
If you're going to make your own CVW-17 DS decals, I might be able to take care of (at least) the two F-14 squadrons, VF-74 and -103, if you were interested in collaborating. The Sluggers'd be easy--I
know I can do those; the Be-Devilers might be a little trickier...

Here are the Islands i am currently working on, Left to Right are CV-43, 60, 61, 62, 63, CVN-65, CV-66 and CV67....
Everyone of them presents a challenge, which i like, its a good feeling taking the kit islands and chopping, sanding, filing, adding bits and ending up with something that actually resembles the real thing, and that someone can actually say "that is USS Coral Sea or USS Kitty Hawk.
Well Happy Modelling, and God Bless all those Service Personnel out there, and Keep them Safe.
