Thus far this week have been way over the expectations hobby wise

Have added some black zebra lines to the previous all white pieces.


Just one step shy of adding the grey when I promised myself that I should get that darn hull finished before I continue with any of the superstructure projects I have going on (:

Meaning that I found a good reason to spend some more quality time in the kitchen


After some patience practice most of the thin paper ended up where I wanted


First part neatly cut and trimmed afterwards.
Did reattach some of the wood parts I had removed previously, hopefully for the better with recent bright ideas


Have also tested my new super wood-glue one a wood part and plastic sheet that I will give a closer examination soon. If that works out, I will finish the wood decking with some washes and then sniff some glue (=

For some strange reason I have managed to stay focused on one hobby activity last week�s instead of a dozen. Resulting in a bit bigger update than normal, or at least a bit more pictures than normally although the actual progress can be discussed

Starting off with my home-browed deck tan.
Was pondering about these three and did some testing, ended up using AK301 Wash Dark for Wood Decks.


I thinned it down pretty much since I think all (?) models of Hood I have seen thus far have had a very pale decking. Guess I am a bit scared to break stride since I am all to new to this sort of hobby
Using Tamiya lacquer thinner I thinned down to around 1 to 4 so very thinned out.

Mixed a bit too much in hindsight but now I have more to use as base for future decking (=

As an addition to the 301 I added AK263 Wash for Wood (thinned down to about the same) on some random places as an effort to create some variation of the texture. Its more than a challenge to piece out one plank and not having the wash overextend. Lucky for me most people have stopped using monocles these days

Next was to figure out what varnish to use, out of what I had and that did take its time haha. Ended up using Tamyia x-35 Semi Gloss Clear. Two thin coats with the airbrush.


With that out of the way it was off to some final preparation before the wood glue came out. One last check that the thin paper at least was fairly decent cut to the edges.


And some final work with sandpaper (1000) to get the last uneven spots.

Its strength class 4 so it should do till I leave for higher purposes (=

Then there was this question about filters or not�
I did like what shift in color they offered some posts ago but, and a big but; I haven�t found anyone using them on a 1/200 ship. I probably haven�t searched the Web enough, although I spent a few hours looking. Seems like filters are most used on armoured vehicles. After more debating with myself I thought what the heck, the worst that can happen is that I have to redo the hull and that�s nothing new considering the boot topping AND the previously red bottom

MIG/AK Natural Grey for White became the winner (no thinning),

and after a few strokes with the brushes, here is the result starting from starboard.

I haven�t done the barbets, still pondering if I shall continue above hull height. If I do, I am thinking trying to thin down the filter, possibly more and more as higher I go. We will have to see about that as we progress (=

Anyway, I think the filter does add a lot more to the hull than previously. Instead of having a solid color with no textures this offer a lot of variation.
Some places have a bit too much filter but I believe it will even out as I start with the oil. Speaking of which, think I have managed to narrow down on what I will use as a base for the hull.


AK Abteilung 502 all the way, think I am seeing a pattern here (=
From top and down:
ABT110. Black
ABT100. Neutral Grey
ABT050. Olive Green
ABT170. Light Grey
ABT230. Blue-Green
ABT060. Light Rust

Although I have loads of washes I think I will try do use 110 black for that purpose and the rest for weathering. Washes tend to be all- or nothing as soon you start to work with the thinners.
That leaves me with 5 oils, perhaps one to much, time will tell were we end up with this.

I do have a good excuse for my absence, it�s spelled Horus Heresy 2.0 by Games Workshop
I always found the combination of great lore, hobby time (building and painting) AND playing with your figures together with other nerds a well worth investment.
Also, a friend of my recently started a 1/350 Fletcher (Tamiya) that got my vibes going (=

Anyhow, back to topic.
Since last post there have been some work on, and under; the shelter deck.
Let�s start beneath.
I did some spying on other builds and threads trying to figure out a good color, turns out it�s in favor for a light grey or even white. I might have overdone this step since well, few if any will spend more than fraction of a second looking. But, knowing you did it properly helps with the sleep haha

First layer of basecoat, mr. Surfacer 1000


Then off to the darkest of dark, Taimya XF-1 Flat Black


Time to build up some color, XF-66 Light Grey applied over a vast majority of the black surface.


XF-19 Sky Grey thereafter.

As a final stage, a mix of XF-19 Sky Grey and XF-2 Flat White to top things off.

Topside then, added the brass inserts along with some filling and sanding back and forth hopefully removing the joint on the splinter shields.



Cut out some plastic as well, heard that decent ventilation is a good thing hot summers (=


Had to do some trimming beneath the oval plastic pieces on both sides since it turns out the brass sheets are a bit high, or the Trumpeter kit a bit narrow.

Hull wise then!
First the degaussing cable and portholes all got a wash of burnt umber mixed with black. After some pondering (drying a few days) I decided to take the hull weathering in three oil dot filter stages(!). First layer consisting off:
ABT 110 Black
ABT 100 Neutral Grey
ABT 170 Light Grey
ABT 165 Faded White





Halfway through with the dotting process. Worked my way top to bottom with most of the brighter color�s upper half and the darker lower down.



First stage done and dusted.




With the previous filter applied and now some oil I think it�s a decent start. And yes, I know Hood was in mint condition paint wise when she left Scapa Flow for her final voyage. This is me experimenting and learning to create something for me that is interesting (textures).

And that�s where I left of since last time in the hobby room (=

Some progress on this s-l-o-w-l-y developing build.
I�ve done step two and three regarding the hull oil weathering

Some dotting bellow waterline, trying to create some green-ish vague textures.




And here should some pictures of the aftermath be but, they weren�t taken
So, right on to step three, rust above waterline.

Next up will be a rust wash over portholes, degauss cable and minor details. As a final step I will do some acrylic brush chipping, above and below the waterline.
And yes, once I fix the anchors there will be a bit more weathering around them as well.

No pictures this post, more work and less to show :p

I been adding some more final details the hull last days. A bit of chipping to the lower hull (lighter grey) and a tiny bit more rust wash over the portholes. Remains now is the final touches around the hawsepipes, then we are done hull wise (hurray!).

Gave the four main turrets a go with sandpaper and another round with putty (curing atm).
Added the portholes to the shelter deck and been pondering over how to proceed with it.
If I should try to paint as much as possible before attaching or after; seen both alternatives on various builds.

Good evening chaps

Managed to squeeze in some hours since last update.

Glued all the tiny items to the shelter deck
Know some people prefer PVA glue for this action in order to avoid any disasters with the decking. Me being me however I went with the super glue, slow cure. Think it worked out well, no know issues thus far with the decking =)





Gave the rear screens some paint as well as the main turrets. Mr surfacer as base then some mat black for shading and then building up the grey.




Gave the shelter deck same color treatment on the parts that are grey. Ended with a satin varnish (VMS) over all parts, plus the previously painted bridge and conning tower. A day or two of drying then, then a lot of things can happen

Long time since last update from the shipyard. Some updates before the year passes by.
It�s still moving on, although SLOWLY

Shelter deck in place, nothing holding me back!

The turrets are just temporary placed since I figured it can be nice have some maneuverability when budling around the barbets in the future. Till then I know where they are so they don�t get lost (=

That wavy pattern to lower boot topping edge while seems a bit exessive at times, makes for a wondderful looking model overall. Really nice colors there man!

It's a brave man that weathers the Mighty Hood to that extent but she look fantastic
