I have posted photos as well as all the information provided by former crew members - get them while the thread exists since it will go off after 60 days.

Can you tell what it is yet?

The Island of Victorious will need cleaning up yet before painting and some photoetch rails.
Pictures of the rest of the ship to follow.

Considering this kit dates from what, 1959, usual Airfix problems aside it is not a bad a kit compared to some I have built!

Hiya ASFC,
Welcome to the Slipway, hope to see more of your work, I joined the RN a few years too late to see Victorious in service, only Ark, Hermes and Bulwark were left in service in 75, Eagle was moored in Plymouth awaiting the trip to the scrapyard, i have Fujimi Ark and Eagle in my stash and am awaiting the release of Hermes from IHP, i also have modern Ark, Invincible and Illustrious and a few other RN subjects.

Thanks Kidcurrie. Although my aim is not to build every last RN carrier of the last 40 years (that being cost prohibitive for me), I am going to give what I have got as much justice as possible. Makes a nice change from all these American Carriers (not that I haven't got my fair share of them either, although the likes of Nektarios and you Kidcurrie give them better justice than I have!).

Here is Lusty, under construction. She is stalled at the moment, being of Dragon 07 Heritage. Stalled because of the hole where the Seadart should be. I did not find Dragons 'conversion' piece adequate! She will of course get photoetch in due course.
Image

And here is my Ark Royal. Built when I was just starting out-so lacks the photoetch the other two will have. I recently put her through refit to replace damage (using the spares I got with the Lusty) caused by building her during my teenage years! Eventually she will get some photoetch work as well!

p.s. Does anyone know a good 1/600 and 1/700 RN Carrier decal manufacturer? Thanks in advance.

p.s.s I hope you will all excuse the rather poor photos-they were taken in a hurry!

I know of no RN carrier decals, White Ensign Models produce a RN Decal set that will give you hull and island letters and numbers, they also the carry Xtradecal striping in various colours which is good for flightdecks.

As promised an update on my build, R38 Victorious. The Island has been cleaned up and painted, and is just waiting for some photoetch work. The 7 Gun Turrets for the Sponsons are done straight OOB. I have waterlined the Hull and given it a Plasticard base to give it added strength. As you will see in the photos I have started to paint the flightdeck, and the sponson are painted and awaiting photoetch railings. The Airfix supplied (i.e molded on) Lift rafts (or whatever they were supposed to represent) were cut off and I have started to scratchbuild replacements based on photos of Victorious during the 60's.

The 3-D radar will be left as a working part on the finished model as I can't decide which direction it should face!
