Richard,

This sounds exciting, to me! Welcome to the AVP therapy group. :heh:

I would think that if you're making a 1/48 hull that you'll be creating the other features of these ships, as well?

Hey Carl, here are the models that a buddy of mine made for me......... one is the Unimak and the other is the CGC Chambers that was home ported out of New Bedford,Ma. I don't know if the Chambers is scratch built or not but the Unimak was.

The Chambers looks like it is the Trumpeter USS England 1/350 DE kit with a lot of scratch building on the superstructure from the 01 deck up. I'm somewhat puzzled by the great detail that stops short of putting in the pilot house port holes. You could fix that easily enough with a drill and some PE. You've also piqued my curiosity about the CG conversion of DE's. They are beautiful models though.

Thanks Russ, I'll pass that on to him, come to think of it you may be right and it is the USS England kit. I could fix it up but I don't want to mess up the good work he did.

Those are really nice models, Pete! Tell you friend that I feel they are excellent depictions of these ships.

How long is the Unimak? 1/350 would be 10.5" long. The Unimak looks scratch built, to me.

Carl, yes the Unimak is 1/350. He did scratch build it for me :woo_hoo: :thumbs_up_1: . At the time he was scratch building a diorama of the CG buoy tender that was using a remote diving vehicle to look for the "Edmund Fitz Gerald". That diorama is in a museum in Marquette,MI.I haven't made it down there yet to see it and take some pictures. He did bring it to a model contest but it wasn't done yet, he just had the "Fitz" resting on the bottom.

The foremast and stack mast are just about completed. Spent all day, yesterday, working on them.

Thank you, Harry! Yes, the pulleys are from Alliance's Cruiser Crane set.

I had hoped to replace the ISW PE Crane Boom with one from Alliance but, the AVP crane booms are shorter than those on the Alliance PE frets. The ISW boom doesn't have an enclosed bottom so, I used two ISW crane booms to complete it more accurately.

The crane base is a conversion set part of mine, Back-Aft Models. I added access doors and a ladder to the base re-cast it in resin. The post and mast pieces are styrene and brass and the battle gaff is from the ISW PE fret with a piece of brass rod for reinforcement.

The crane will be positioned turned a little to the port side so, the yardarm on the crane mast is positioned perpendicular to the ship's centerline. The yardarm is on a pivot joint so that when the crane turns the yard stays in place due to the antenna wires attached to it from the foremast.

Thank you, Richard.

This camo is Measure 33; 1F. I used LifeColor Acrylics and Gator Masks. The finish is weathered with pastel chalks.

One Twin 40mm tub competed with ammo racks and covered in canvas using a tip from Kostas who told me to use tissue paper dipped in diluted white glue. I used to use decal film. The tissue paper is easiler to handle I feel.

I don't care for the look of the empty ammo racks and I haven't seen any exposed racks with ammo in them, on 1/350 models.
