kidcurrie42. have you thought of mass producing those islands for the JFK ? , I would be first in the queue to get one or two, i will follow your build intently, your build of the RANGER has had my mouth watering, this along with all the photographs that you have posted of other carriers has really made me want to build a carrier, just need to decide on what to build.
keep up the good work

Hi Matty, No i have never considered it, i value my time building these days, dragging myself away from the comp is hard enough, but i have actually been good at that during my build of Ranger and that build has been so enjoyable, so much so that i will limit my time on the net. so no i will not produce anymore(unless i lose this one that is).
Glad you enjoyed the Ranger build, i certainly have. i cannot even remember all the Carriers that i have posted pics of, theres a few, choosing a build is hard, i have always loved the Convensional carriers especially Midway and Ranger.
Anyways good luck with the choice.
Happy modeling

Why do we do it ? Matty's post yesterday for some reason had me thinking, i started a reply but tiredness and the length of it got the better of me, Do you remember the first time you saw the Revell USS Enterprise or the Italeri USS Forrestal, boxes taped closed, parents saying you will have to wait till your Birthday or for Santa to come, such torture. the only ships carrying planes i had seen was in the movies like Pearl Harbor and Sink the Bismark, Jets on a ship Wow. Then the build, red tails, yellow tails, multi colored, stripes, crosses ect, then came publications such as Seventh Fleet Super Carriers, Super Carriers, Detail and Scale Forrestal and Enterprise and you realised that something was missing, this kit didnt look like this pic, these planes have pictures and letters on the tails, you realised that ships in the class differed, box art showed differences(Saratoga with Ranger sponsons) but access to the box was still restricted by tape, you would buy the kit, maybe waited till you got home till opening it(9 time outta 10 though it was opened on the bus) imagine the disapointment at finding the same kit in a different box, Nooooooooooooooo they wouldnt do that, surely they must know that there are differences between ships, more publications came to light like FSM and Guys like John Leyland(Carriers of John Leyland, loved that Nimitz)would inspire me to start the cutting and changing areas, I found products from the likes of Loren Perry and WEM, i wrote/called and badgered them many times for 1/700 Carrier PE and Decals and assessories, then the Internet opened up a whole new world, so much Information, Manufacturers and Forums, meeting guys like Nektarios, gtb-red, JGrease, Hippy ed, Mark and many others, i remember a conversation i had when Midway and Coral Sea were at various stages of build, i stated that i would never attempt a FDR, well about a week later Midway kit had arrived and i was cutting the crap outta it, and i found it easier than i had thought it would be, and whilst all this was happening, Trumpeter stunned us all by releasing Nimitz in both 1/700 and 1/350, Mark at Starfighter decals made so many dreams become reality with his outstanding decals, Loren Perry with decals and PE, WEM with PE and assessories, there are so many out there making Carrier Phreaks very happy, but it gets better and better, DML tweaking the WW2 molds to get the Korean war, CVS and LPH versions of the Essex class.
Jon Warnke at ISW has given us a great 27A, DML need to make good on the promise of Angled deck Essex's as i fear they put off the resin guys from releasing these by about two years at least.
Conclusion and thoughts, if there is a hole somewhere in your collection/area of intrest, Fix it, research, Styrene, putty and a good spares box and the guys that use this Forum are a mountain of info and tips.
Happy modeling
