Speaking of the incoming HMS Malaya, Trumpeter just released a preview; she'll be in her 1943 configuration.

Just found this little gem, though, I'm unable to dig up any info on the class.

Pix and details now shown for Fujimi 1/700th sub set including IJA transport sub:
http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10284329
The army sub was previously available in this scale only as an "extra" included with the 1/350th kit of same. Packaged here with what appears to be a straight repop of Fujimi's I-15/I-46 combo; with decals for others of both classes.

This class of four ships was built in 1906-08 by Kawasaki in Japan. All were sunk in 1937 by Japanese planes, but one was salvaged was for a short period in use with the Japanese navy as Kawasemi (not clear when: some sources claim she was decommissioned already in 1940, other state that she was re-commissioned in 1940...)Bill Clarke wrote:Just found this little gem, though, I'm unable to dig up any info on the class.

I don't know if it's just me, but I've not been able to get on HLJ's product pages ("Server Error"). If others are experiencing the same thing, here's Hobby Search's page for the Aoshima new-tool Ark Royal: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10289518

Items noted by Tim and Bob; also Kashino, Aikokumaru and Kamikawamaru
http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/918/0/1
EDIT: Would never have dreamed we'd see Kashino in plastic. What an obscure, oddball vessel.

In addition to the above IJN kits, the 1/700 Shimakaze is listed on Hobby Search for pre order.

Impending plastic version more detailed than the OOP High Mold/Pit Road resin release (SPR-08, circa 1999). Different hull profile for one, treaded deck, and hatch covers also included.Quaestor wrote:Items noted by Tim and Bob; also Kashino, Aikokumaru and Kamikawamaru![]()

Yes; although a very different look to the older resin kit in that it was depicted carrying turret/barbette/barrels in its design role: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10059310a/20/1D-Boy wrote:Impending plastic version more detailed than the OOP High Mold/Pit Road resin release (SPR-08, circa 1999). Re: *Inj. molded plastic* Upcoming Ship Kit Releases
So with the new treaded deck layout in the new Kashino kit , it looks as though a linoleum deck didn't exist on it as per the original resin release????? Or did it at one early time in her career? Interesting.

Re: *Inj. molded plastic* Upcoming Ship Kit Releases
I actually remembered having a copy of -"The world of unfamiliar ship models that know one ever knew about". It has a scratch built 1/700 Kashino in it having the same treaded deck pattern as the upcoming new plastic release. The only wood that I see on her are her lifeboats and hatch covers that housed the Yamato/Musashi turrets and gun barrels. Maybe the very top of her bridge area but, I can't really be sure judging by the pictures.
I am getting really excited that Pitroad is releasing a lot of the IJN Merchant men.. Whats next?? Maybe the Irako???

Noticed that in December there will be a 'retake' version of Aoshima's 1/350 Kongo. Anybody know what will be different?

A guess would be that they will clean up the deck.Heavy Melder wrote:Noticed that in December there will be a 'retake' version of Aoshima's 1/350 Kongo. Anybody know what will be different?
