Well, now that everybody knows about it there will probably be 500 bids on it at the last minute driving the price up to $900 at least.

Right gottcha except that it's not for sale, it's up for auction. I placed a bid at 1 dollar over. Let's see what happens. Oh, and outbid me at all costs, but see where this goes.

If the price goes up to $900 then it means it was worth that much to someone and the prices we've been seeing from the book stores aren't all that off

This probably means that the documents you need are stored in Maryland. You know, in that huge warehouse where they put the Ark of the Covenant! :heh:

Hi All,

I picked up my copy from Barnes & Noble not too long after the release of this kit. It was from an independent seller in California who obviously didn't know what he had. I picked it up for $69.99 and it's in mint condition. The bonus being is that it's a signed copy. I don't know what a mint Stillwell signed copy should go for but I bet It's not the amount I paid for it.

Anyway there's a lot of great info in this thread and will help my build immensely.

Cheers,

John

That was the going rate last fall when the kit first came out. He was simply selling it at the market price. Then everyone went nuts soon afterwards.

On the topic of Pennsylvania vs. Arizona differences, I noticed another one this morning. The bracing on Pennsylvania's turret #3 catapult comes much further down the turret face than Arizona's.
See:

versus:

There may also be some difference in where the ladder comes down from the catapult catwalk, but I'm not sure on that one yet.

I really wish we could establish the differences between the two ships sufficiently enough to modify the 1/200 Trumpeter kit into a Pennsylvania. The old girl had a great life, and it'd be nice to make a nice big model of her that is reasonably accurate.

Well, congratulations Bondoman. Thanks to my infinite stupidity I got distracted at work yesterday and completely forgot about the auction. :doh_1: I didn't remember until I got home and it was too late. Must be all these paint and glue vapors I've been breathing in lately. :dead:

Oh well. At least it looks to be down to $130 on Amazon now. :-?

It was me this time. I missed the last one. At least it seems that we are the only ones bidding.

Well, don't be. Who knows what Moens set as his minimum bid, plus in the true spirit of shipmates, he's out of the hunt, and we now can keep the market depressed.

Okay, time for another stupid landlubber's question. On the Trumpeter kit, the forward ventilator on the fo'c'sle (part #B4) is keyed so that it's glued to the deck with the opening pointed forward. However all the pictures of Arizona in Stillwell's books show it pointed aft. Did the ventilator head rotate, or is the Trumpeter part and instruction sheet wrong and needs to be glued in the opposite direction?

Hello,
I have a question regarding after market barrels. I have the B&D Barrels 14 inch set and also picked up the Master Models set. I did a side by side comparison and the B&D barrels are over 1/8 inch longer than the Master Models offering. Which barrel set would be the most accurate??

B&D's owner made a post claiming that the Trumpeter barrels were too short, but I haven't been able to verify that.

DSK: Don't know for sure and I haven't had any chance to double check my photos.

Tracy,
What were the actual lengths of the barrels?
