Mmmmm:
Sorry I didn't catch this earlier... The brace between the flag bags and the base of the fire control tower should have oval openings to permit personnel passage fore and aft. Currently as the model is built one has to vault the flag bags to accomplish this journey. An error in the kit...
Cheers: Tom

Thanks Tom, I think I "might" be able to get that area fixed.
For now though, it'll have to wait till after Yellowstone. I will make sure not to pick up any Bison calves in my SUV

Very nice build!
I always want to build one of these ships with crazy details, but the stash is still big, and skill not yet ready.
Looking forward to more progress. Anything?

Nothing new recently. I "think" I have everything finished on the section I've been showing. I've started assembling the 2 five inch gun turrets (well, two weeks ago) and need to add the PE to them and paint. Hopefully this weekend.
Thanks for following along!

Hey all
Does any company make replacement lockers/storage bins? Looking at the rest on the deck, compared to the Veteran Models part.....well, they look like crap.
If you know of someone/company, please shout out!

I believe veteran makes a couple sets of IJN and German ammo lockers for WW2 in 1/350 that would probably be a decent replacement for the featureless boxes on the kit.

Featureless is right! I'll check out the offerings from Veteran, thanks!

Such a beautiful and clean build! Indeed the replacement CIWS looks really good, as well as the colors.
BTW, is this your first ship model? It looks too good!

Thanks John!. I'm looking forward to getting the rest of the Veteran Models parts on board, as I progress.

Thanks Aur! I guess you could say it's my first ship model in over 25 years. I'd been sticking to 1/48 modern jets and a few Star Trek starships for the past few years.

Well, still too good! So you're a very experienced modeler, then!
Again, looking forward to more progress and painted veteran parts.

Thanks Aur.
Here's more progress from today. 5" guns assembled, PE added and paint. Too bad the PE isn't really visible, but.....it's the thought that counts.
Comments of course are always welcome. Thanks all!

Very sharp!
What camera do you use?
BTW, when you get to the hull, follow closely the Tamiya instruction on the screws numbers, as these are correct for their turning directions (counter-clockwise LH, clockwise RH), and also paint the shaft anti-fouling red, like the hull and not brass as Tamiya suggested.

Hey Aur
Camera......well, I'm using my Samsung S6 for all these shots so far

. I have a Nikon D7000, which I'll eventually use as I get the hull assembled.
Thanks for the tip on the screws, I'll make sure to keep track of them. I might look for actually brass screws, if I get carried away as well!

A couple more updates, Veteran Models SATCOM replacement painted and installed. Started on the ECM replacements as well, letting the CA set on the base before I paint them (tomorrow).
Kit part at right
Installed
ECM start. Kit parts look horribly painted (they were) up close!
