Meanwhile, back at the office...another model takes shape

So, while my 1/350
USS Illinois build continues at home, I've been concentrating on my 1/700 WW2 German battleship
Gneisenau at work. Here are some progress shots as of today:
Among the things to be completed: a new main mast (which will be from brass), blast bags, the ships boats and the main deck railings. Of course, I'll probably discover a few other things I forgot or that need to be touched up along the way...

Martin, Your Gneisenau looks great. You have another impressive build going there. I enjoy looking at you work.
It's good to be able to work on something you enjoy while at work. It helps us to forget about the junk we have to put up with at work.
I have spent many a lunch time working on the a/c for my aircraft carriers.

Martin,
I'm jealous. Model making in the office? I'll have to try that but I don't think they (the Powers that be) would appreciate me hacking up wood and stinking the place out with glues somehow, apart from cluttering my desk up wth a vice, electric drill etc. At the end of the first week I would have probably taken over half the office.
I think your 'Gneisenau' is great and as the man said 'How do you see what you're doing'? I sometimes can't get as neat a job at three times the size!

HAB,
Your post made me laugh...I could just picture the scene. Yes, I'm very fortunate I have an office that I can close the door at lunch and get some work done. With two small children at home, sometimes what I do at lunch is all I'm able to accomplish!!

Some updated pics. The masts are on, made from brass rod. About all that is left is blast bags for the main and secondary turrets, then PE for the main deck. The air recognition panels are painted on, with 1/72 swastikas from an AeroMaster FW-190D set (which I bought specifically for this!)

Martin,
You get more modeling done AT your full time job than I do without having a job at all!
Nice looking work.

Morning (here) Martin,
Your 'Gneisenau' is coming along superbly. I do like the masts. Being rude (possibly) are they etch or did you make them up? Etch or self made, she looks really great and is a credit to you. I take my hat off to you. What's next ..'Scharnhorst'?

Thank you sir. The Masts are simple brass rod - two different sizes for the main mast, three different for the foremast - super glued together with the assistance of the CA glue accelerator.
Yes, a 1/700 Scharnhorst is in the works!

The balance of the PE has been added, masts have been painted, and I made some blast bags from Milliput. Not entirely happy with the way the blast bags came out, but since it was my first attempt using this stuff, I guess they came out alright, albeit a little too big.
Still a little more to do: The seaplane, some touch up, then I can do the rigging and weathering.

Mornining Martin,
Having only just seen the latest photos of your 'Gneisenau' all I can say is 'more power to your elbow'. If I could do as well at say 1/144th I'd be in heaven. I like your model muchly indeed. Roll on 'Scharnhorst'! As they say here 'I'm wettin' meself waitin''

After a few weeks away from the workbench (vacation and some minor surgery that laid me up last weekend), I've been able to get "back at it" the last few days. Here's how Gneisenau stands as of tonight:
All that's left is to finish painting and then assemble the Arado floatplane, assemble and mount the FuMo22 radar (I think I've figured out how the PE radar goes together) and then weathering. I hope to have the model done by next week, so I can bring it to the MarauderCon show in Maryland, which is on 9/15.
