Calling all Soviet Kresta-class (беркут) Project 1134 & Kara-class Project 1134B fans

Post by Neptune »

Great to hear everything's ok Andrey!

Here are a few pics of Kerch, the only remaining Kara in service. She carries the Podberezovik long range (500km) 3D air search radar for testing. This radar is also supposed to be mounted on the Gorshkov (Vikramaditiya) during her modernization.
Otherwise I think she's pretty similar to the other Kara's. She received some upgraded equipment back in '80's and a fully refurbished accomodation sponsored by a city (which was not Kerch and hence a renaming was proposed) in 2005 or 2004. She is based in Sevastopol and hence serves in the Black Sea Fleet.

These pictures are again from the Airbase.
I have them in about four times this size on my computer, if you want them in the larger size to see more details, just PM.

Hello Graham,
there are plenty of good sites, but it indeed helps if you can read a few words Russian or just even know how to change their alphabet to ours.
http://www.navsource.narod.ru is one hell of a good site! But again it's mainly in Russian.

There was such a Black Sea Fleet exercise a while ago too, then a Krivak II and Smetliviy were involved. There were some of these high res pics too back then, I think I saved one, but I'm not sure.

These high res pics are bad for Russian Navy, look at the pic where the seahawk lands on Moskva, how many dents can you get in one ship.... It's not the first time that I notice something like this. That happens when you don't have tugs to moor your ships!

And here is some more for you guys:

Give it time, after all how long did we have to wait till another company other than Tamiya started to make 1/350 ship kits.
Maybe we should start a wish list!
Mine would be
Scale 1/350
Kirov
Kersta II
Kara
Krivak I ,II or III

Other than Russian would be:
HMAS Melbourne
Majestic Class Carrier this would be a good one for several navies
God there are so many that I would like to have in the end this list could go on forever.

Hi Guys,
Just like to draw your attention to the 2 newest books published recently in Russia.
One - dedicated to Kresta-I and Kresta-II Classes.
Another - to Kara Class.
Both books are vividly illustrated with huge number (several hundred) unique photos plus genuine building drawings. They are the most detailed books on the subject ever published in the world. Highly recommend! I obtained my own copies through the site: http://siriusm.homestead.com
Covers attached above.
Regards
Max

Is there any chance you'd be willing to share some scans of the drawings ;)? I'd love to build a kresta, man I love these soviet ships. Which to start with first? Argh :D!

So will did you ever follow up with a Kresta Build? If not get back to me. What scale would you build?
Building
1/72 Admiral Kuznetsov
1/72 Frunze Russian Battle cruiser
1/72 Steregushchy-class corvette

Max can you still get these books? I have tried the web site with limited success.

Has ANYONE tried to build either a Kresta or Kara model?

I have plans for Kresta 1 and Kresta 2 ($90 each), Kara ($100) Australian dollars plus shipping.
These plans are hand drawn and meant for someone to scratch build a model for remote control. Basic plan Scale is 1/100 and other scales included for details in the protfolio.
Here is a sample page
