The photo of the Ch?gei in 1942 looks like it has a director on top of the bridge.

The same photo (posted above, colorized) shows a degaussing cable, or what looks to be one.

And there is a 1946 photo of the Jingei with a Type 21 Radar on the forward Mast.

Thanks Dan. Looks like another case where a certain amount of modeler's license may be needed.
I'd seen that colorized photo of Chogei but had not realized the bow wave was a Measure 5  fake; rather well done!

Well, the TROMS are not particularly robust in terms of whereabouts and refits for Jingei, either:

Nor are there early wartime photos of her, at least at my access. If you are willing to go with Chogei as guide in terms of fit at that time (highly likely), then yes, she would have had the director atop her bridge. Definitely too early for radar.

Fast forward four years and I'm about to start the same Jingei kit, gents.
I'm OK with early-war fit, so I'll keep the 3" AA and not fret about placement of the lighter stuff.
Do we know if that director was atop the bridge, early war? Apparently not in earlier years.
No radar yet 1941 or 1942, I'd wager.
Most importantly, which IJN gray? John Snyder's very good booklet comes up short here; no mention of either Chogei or Jingei.
If all else fails I'll follow standard procedure: the color from whichever naval arsenal drydocked her last.
TIA

Great pic Dan, thanks, I'm wondering if those 18 25's were singles, that would make sence. The triple mounts required a crew of 9, and the ship wasn't exactly a bare expance of decking.

Also each mount would have required at least 3 ammo boxes, would have made for a crowded deck.

I've been unable to determine her actual fit at the time of her sinking. Everything says 18 of the 25mm mounts but, aside from the 3 twin mounts, nothing about placement.

Well the kit appears to be early fit, 1920's, I'd like to build her circa 44.

Just looked at MA45, and the kit, which has parts for early or late fits minus the 25mm's
