1/350 Warspite - Academy

Post by Strategos Augustus »

This is the Academy Warspite kit built out of the box with generic railings. The purpose of this project was to experiment with the alignment of oil-canning effects (careful to avoid the armored areas, of course) across a camouflage scheme - I have another kit that I've been reserving for a more ambitious bells-and-whistles build.

As far as my technical objective went, the project was wildly successful, the trick was to use the already attached railing as the 'key' by which I would place my vertical demarcations. The paint turned out so well that I regret not investing a few more resources into improving the ladders and anti-aircraft suite. At any rate, it turn out to be extraordinarily fast build and paint job - which sat on my shelf for some years before I got around to weathering and rigging it...as well as finally coming up with an idea for the base. The pice de rsistance is the Walrus floatplane. Without any PE to dress it up, I made new struts and rigging from plastic rod and stretched sprue.

It was ready in time for last fall's local show where it took an undeserved, surprise silver in its category against some stiff competition.
