I'm sorry to say I don't see any of the pictures in part 2 or 3 either.
The ones in the first part look amazing!
Take care,
Chris

Hi, how is proceeding the yamato build?
Can you also tell me what pontos kit have you used?
I see on potos site 4 different yamato kits.
Maybe is the new tool advanced?
thanks!

Sorry for the almost 1 year too late reply
I was not so active, the kit is in stand by. Had some issues with paint, since I bought Tamiya Kure grey in 2 different batches, I did not thought to see if the color is the same, even if it's the same range, same color, same brand, there is a different hue, so now some parts that I painted earlier are a different shade then later painted parts, so now I have to re do some, trying to somehow match the 2 so it's less visible.
I got the 2 pontos sets for the new tool Tamiya. But if you buy the advanced set, the more expensive one, you'll get everything you need.

Time to revive this topic!
Last time I worked on the project I had a few bottlenecks that were driving me crazy and decided to lay it off and cool down.
One of them was the Tamiya XF-75 paint, I had a bottle that was not the same shade, it looks almost the same, but it's more cold, has more blue in it, and since it's a long project I painted some stuff before, some after and in the meantime swapped jars. So the problem now was that I had some part of the superstructure painted in the more blueish/cold tone, other in warmer "proper" IJN kure color. It can be really seen when you put 2 connecting parts together. That thrown me off a bit and after repainting the bridge 4 times and getting the same result (that was before I checked the jars) I gave up.
The second problem was the supporting structure under the stern deck, no matter how many measurement I took, I end up doing 6 iterations of 3D test prints, changing stuff on the go but nothing seemed to work and give me a fit I was looking on, so gave up.
Fast forward to today, I think I resolved both issued and brought my mojo back, there are still a lot of things to sort out but it's going the right way.
I manage to borrow a 3D scanner for testing, it's a Creality Raptor, I've been thinking about it for a long time and how it would help during the 3D modeling of complex parts that need to fit to an existing geometry.
I was pleasantly surprised of how good it worked, the details it picked up are very usable, you still have to replicate surfaces that matches the mesh file scanned but it's much easier and faster and most importantly precise.

Some other example of how a 3D scan can be helpful, even if it's a 2D surface.

The next post will feature the paint problem and how I plan to resolve it.

ooh, that is pretty cool to use a scanner. We use them at work for hull (upto 15m) and propeller models, and scans are quite accurate, but this us the first application I’ve seen for creative modeling, and, to great effect!

Thanks EJFoeth, I hope I will use it more often in the future.
Next update is how I "resolved" the issue with painting, I was browsing Cults3D and came across this beautiful 3D model of the whole superstructure, made by Bago_works, I was super interested and contacted him about it.
Since I have a lot of Bunker Studio sets already done and painted I wanted to integrate them in this file, so I had to get the original file and not just the STL's in order to work on, change some stuff around, holes dimensions etc. Bago was very open to help and I managed to get the files, now I'm reworking them slightly and will do test prints soon.
Either way I have to re paint the whole superstructure, but this way I'm adding even more details, connecting all the Bunker Studio set with a highly detailed superstructure and bridge.
Here is the link to Bago's work if anybody is interested: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/hi ... final-1-35

Here is the 3D scan of the funnel base, checking how it fits since I'm going to use the set from Bunker Studio.

And here are some more 3D models I finished in the meantime, new rudders replacing the wrong shaped Tamiya ones and new propellers, much thinner then the plastic ones.

Hello Veliko!---it would be interesting to look at your images
but your image hosts appears to discriminate who can see them!
I am in the UK-- do any ther5 people in UK have difficulties seeing these images?
the words between the images suggest you are doing a great job!
maybe up-load the occasional image to MW.com ( via the attachments button below left? )

Hi JIM, thanks for letting me know. After googling about this, I indeed see that Imgur banned UK starting from late 2025 because of some new safety acts.
I will try to upload them as attachments and see if that works.

Glad it worked, I will upload the photos as attachments from now on, also much faster then getting links from image upload sites.
