Tracy, thank you for the cleaned up BOGP for Lex. Very interesting, I have spent a few hours going over them!

But they bring questions:
The profiles show a "stern light" mounted on the bow. Was that there after the 1942 refit?
It also shows port or starboard running lights on the hull just above the last boat pockets. seems like a strange place for them, but I did not see anyone the island.

The openings Trumpeter has in the hull, 9 to port and 26 to starboard, the plans only list 6 of them on the port side as "vent door". As a modeler, how are they handled? Should they be backed by plastic sheet, have doors added to them, if they are open on the stb side are there rails inside the larger openings?

Flight deck lights and stern deadlights. were these plated or painted over or left operational? if operational, any ideas for depicting that in 1/350 scale?

Last question, I have done google searches (frustrating) for pictures and videos of Paul Allens exploration of her wreck, all I get are about 15 or so different pictures. Considering how long they spent over the wreck there must be more than that.
Any pointers as where to look?

Thanks!

This is the Trumpeter, 1/350, USS Lexington kit.
I am trying to replicate the degaussing cables on Lex. There are not a lot of pictures to go by. And they are of the Starboard side. Was the port side a mirror image? I hope so.
I am using the pictures of Enterprise to guesstimate a layout for Lex.
Looks ok to me, so far.

Has anyone successfully used the Nautilus wood deck with the 1/350 Lexington? The top of the hull seems like it really needs the stability provided by a properly attached plastic deck, but the Nautilus deck is far to thick to go on top of the kit deck. It almost seems as if I would need to first create a thin deck out of styrene, attach it to the hull and then put the Nautilus deck on top. The deck looks great just not sure if it is ultimately worth the effort.

Your guess is as good as anyone else's There are some picture in Stern's Lexington Class book, which seem to show the number of cables varied, depending where on the hull they were.

Chris Smithers built a 1/350 Lex and made an educated guess on the degaussing cable here: http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery ... index.html

His cables terminate at some point, though photos seem to show (IMO) that these angle up near the bow, under the forward 5 inch gun platforms.

There are wreck photos too, but they only show snippets of the cable.

Martin, thank you for the reply. I have the cables on and we will see what the judges think in the future.

What is the current most agreed consensus about the AA guns number of the USS Lexington when she sunk in 1942?

Also for quite some time I receive the error 502 when trying to visit this forum!

The last summary I saw is as follows:
12 quad 1.1" mounts: 1 at each of the 4 flightdeck corner galleries, 1 forward of the stack, 2 each replacing 8" turrets 1,2 & 4, and 1 replacing 8" turret 3.
22 20MM: 4 on folding gallery in port boat pocket #1, 3 on folding gallery in port boat pocket #3, 5 on folding gallery in starboard boat pocket, 6 on former boat stowage outboard of stack, 2 on back of stack replacing 8" gun director, and 1 each on either side of aft flightdeck rounddown.
20 .50 cal mg's: 2 each on the 4 flightdeck corner galleries, adjacent to the quad 1.1's, and 12 on the upper stack gallery, 6 per side.

Unfortunately, many of us are getting the same "service unavailable" warning. Another thread talks about these "503" messages.

I have read here that for Lexingtons first strike on Shoho the aircraft spotted on deck included 4 F4Fs as a reserve cap forward of the island Starboard side.
Can anyone elaborate on the location? Did Lex have outrigger for them or did the strike aircraft launch with them sitting there?
I am planning to put the first strike, as listed here a few pages back, on my build
