Hello everyone,
I’m currently researching the AN/SPN 35A radar as fitted on Essex class CVs during the 1960s. I’m building a scale 1/350 model of USS Hancock (CVA 19), depicting her during the 1967 WestPac cruise. At that time, Hancock carried the SPN 35A without the protective radome.
There is a basic sketch available on Wikipedia, but unfortunately it provides no dimensions. I would greatly appreciate any help with more detailed drawings, measurements, or technical sketches of the SPN 35A antenna installation—especially the configuration used on the Essex class carriers.
Any information, references, or leads would be extremely helpful.
Best regards, Christian

Hi Darren,
many thanks for your quick and kind reply. With all the information you shared, I now have a much clearer understanding of the size and dimensions, and I’m confident I can start working on a replica.
Thanks again for your help — it’s truly appreciated.
Best regards, Christian

Hello everybody,
I don't see any image, only the word "image".
Did I do something wrong?
Best regards,
Dominique

Same for me - just right click, "View image in new tab", and it should load properly in a separate window tab (annoying but works).domi13 wrote: Sat Apr 18, 2026 11:33 am Hello everybody,
