Hello guys,
I have been searching for a 1/700 Midway class and came across this on ebay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/336359365945?_ ... d%3APL_CLK
Has anyone ever heard of this company? Any information on it?

Re: Questions about a manufacturer
MRY-SFY has been around for a while, well-known for selling a bunch of 3d-printed kits. I think the SS Models brand is under them, and you can see some reviews of those here: https://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/s ... rtland.htm
They're legitimate in the sense they'll deliver you the product shown. But the CAD work is based on models made for video games, so some details don't come through well, such as planking and hull plating, as those aren't created as physical features in video games and so SS Models has to add them in after the fact, often with minimal thought or research.
But if it's a straight-deck 1/700 Midway that you're looking for, note that Trumpeter is planning to produce both as-built and re-fitted versions sometime this or next year.

Re: Questions about a manufacturer
Hi Steve -
I have a few of these, including their Liberty ship, Goldenfels Cargo Ship (Atlantis) and a USS Gato fleet submarine.
Overall they are a mixed bag with a somewhat frustrating mix of interesting topics with some ambitions detail, marred by inconsistent research, design errors and occasionally printing issues. They look good in the box, being professionally printed and well packaged, but as a somewhat discerning modeler I'd say that they could be significantly better with just a little more research.
Liberty Ship - Has a hockey-stick break in the sheer, similar to Pit-Road, rather than the gracefully curved deck line if the real thing. Cargo winches are nice, but too high off the deck. All three masts have crow's nests, Funnel and gun tubs are all off and could have been so much better with a little more design work. Hull plating is overdone and has the same hockey-stick break. Lots of good features as well, but it could have been a lot better.
Goldenfels Cargo Ship- Nice aside from a glaringly wrong recessed fore-deck which is flat, horizontal and does not follow the curve of the hull.
No complaints about the Sub. It's really nice. Fine details, although I'm not an an expert on accuracy, but it looks right.
Liberty Ship arrived not fully-cured, so sticky on the surface. I washed it with soapy water and set it in sunlight for a couple of hours which solved the problem. I've heard other people report similar issues, including uncured resin inside of solid hulls which has leaked out.
A mixed bag overall but unusual subjects that may not be available otherwise. May need some correction/scratchbuilding etc., if you're a stickler for accuracy, but that's part of the fun (at least for me).
Value is subjective and a personal decision and 100+ bucks isn't cheap, but I would expect it to build into a nice model with a little effort.

Re: Questions about a manufacturer
Hi, thanks for the reply and the information. I heard about Trumpeter's 1/350 Midway but not the 1/700. I"m interested in a Midway class since my dad served on the Coral Sea in the 50's. I guess I'll wait and see what happens during the year.Timmy C wrote: Thu Jul 02, 2026 9:31 am

Hi and thanks for the reply. I think I'll wait and see what Trumpeter does in the next year. I prefer to work with plastic. If Trumpeter doesn't come through, I might take the chance with this company.reigels wrote: Thu Jul 02, 2026 9:52 am Hi Steve -

Re: Questions about a manufacturer
Well the 3D printer is certainly not GAGA I just purchased the 1/700 Aggressive Class Minesweeper a Mr Y-SFW product. Nicely done in soft gray resin. I almost fell out my chair as it came with assembly instructions. Your link brings you to the Mr Y-SFW outlet store so ask a question of the seller if it is Mr. Y-SFW product.
If you have not purchased 3D ships before keep in mind you are looking at a digital picture not the actual kit. All the minor details you see may not be included in the kit. 3D prints also have a long lead time, may or may not have instructions, no air wing, no decals, no photo-etch. Oh and scale is most times off slightly or in a major manner.
On the bright side if Trumpeter ever releases an as built Midway rest assured of poor fit, instructions out sequence and air wing that doesn’t match the era of the ship. They usually release 1/350 first (not always) so those scale hobbyists get the first headaches. You don’t have that with 3D printed ships but you are missing the items above.
Orange Hobby did a Midway in 1/700 in her last fit and Jim Shirley did a Midway after she received her angled flight deck minus many of the 5”54 guns.

Re: Questions about a manufacturer
In all cases, I got the instructions for MRY-SFW kits, when they were missing and I had asked for them. They provide a pdf file.
If there are issues with a MRY-SFW kit, always complain. There are sometimes issues and they replace parts, if you complain.
Recently, they added in many cases wooden decks to ships, which had steel decks - very annoying. But I got also here corrected hulls or they are on the way, respectively.
Tom's Modelworks offers also two 1/700 kits of the Midway class:
Midway 1958
Franklin D Roosevelt 1957

Re: Questions about a manufacturer
I bought a HMS Indomitable from them on eBay. Their research was flawed in they shipped it with 6 quad 2 pdr Pom Poms instead of the 8 barrel ones she carried from completion through scrapping. I texted them and they make a new parts raft with the correct weapons (took about 2 months). I’m not crazy about the lines all over the flight deck. But they appear to be the same as what I purchased from SSModels.sdk10159 wrote: Thu Jul 02, 2026 4:08 am Hello guys,

Overall I’m happy with it.
