Re: *3D printed models* Upcoming Ship Releases
Great news from NeOmega https://www.facebook.com/neomegaresin
Taken from FB
We have finally been persuaded to release a few of our 1/144th Iconic Boats range as 1/350th scale versions. The first will be our best selling 1917 Ocean Class Steam Drifter. This kit can be built as either one of the huge number of Herring fishing boats or WWI and WWII armed coastal defence versions, and will be an unusual addition to your collection, plus make a great add-on detail for a harbour diorama.
This will be a fully 3d printed kit. A generic etch brass sheet will also be available soon as a joint release with Starling Models and will have rails, ladders, davits ect for detailing many 1/350th ship models.
The kit will be available shortly, and the etch in a few weeks time.
RRP £40, and the etch expected to be £7.
Future released will include the Puffer, a 1964 German Harbour Tug, and a 1929 Cunard liner tender/tug

Re: *3D printed models* Upcoming Ship Releases
The original version had 20 cm (200 mm - 7.9'') guns, the 20.3 cm was a later design. It was also used on the two Aobas as completed, but both classes were regunned using the 20.3 cm cannon later on. Weird choice, I know.

Re: *3D printed models* Upcoming Ship Releases
True, the guns are at least named differently. But the IJN also called their 3" (7.6 cm) guns "8 cm" – therefore, there are at least some people who doubt that the 20 cm and 20.3 cm were really different calibers. I have not followed that in detail.

Re: *3D printed models* Upcoming Ship Releases
True, they did the same with the Vickers 14'' (356 mm) gun on the Kongos, Fusos and Ises, which was classified as 36 cm gun. But those were imported designs; the 20 cm was locally developed in 1920, and it's actually different from the 20 cm (203 mm) from 1930, which reequipped those two classes. To distinguish the two guns, the IJN used the designation 20 cm/50 3rd Year Type No.1 for the former, and No.2 for the latter.
In any case, for those who want more info on that specific bit and more, I strongly recommend Japanese Cruisers of the Pacific War by Linton Wells. Still the best book money can buy on the subject.
