Calling all British Coastal Forces fans

Post by RogerP »

:welcome: from OZ,

My modelling interest is the modelling and research of Allied Light Coastal Forces 1914 -- 1945 which, of course covers both world wars and the Russian Civil War.

In this forum I wish to concentrate on mainly British (and Australian) MTBs, MGBs, SGBs and MLs from WW2 and CMBs and MLs from WW1 and the RCW.

I have found the research to be most rewarding and I'm being lead on a most amazing journey all over the world, making contact with veterans and families of veterans in the UK, Canada, NZ and here at home. The RAN had 35 Fairmile Bs and 29 HDMLs.

One of my modelling goals is to model all the 'little ships' (and the Campbelltown) who made that incredible, one way for most, journey to St Nazaire and I also have quite an interest in the raids on Zeebrugge and Ostend in 1918.

Hi Roger
How are you doing? Been meaning to get in touch.

I have a couple of the PT dockyard models to do when I get a little time (?) so I'll be adding some MGBs and coastal forces to the ever growing fleet of little ships. That reminds me, where did I put that MTB 102?

Cheers
Mike

Most interesting this topic. I've never been much into torpedo launchs but occasionally I do pick some stuff on them.
Haven't got any of your books Connelly, sadly. I hope to get them to my library one of these days.
I do own "Dog Boats at war - Royal Navy D class MTB's and MGB's 1939-1945" by Leonard C. Reynolds, IWM Edition. Looks a good book at least to me since I am no expert on the area covered by it.
Cheers,

Filipe

Thanks for your replies Gents,

I plan on posting quite a long list of what I'm currently working on soon, I'm just waiting on four craft from SDD including MTB 74 which went to St Nazaire. In most cases I'm doing specific craft, either boats on which the veterans I've met served or particular craft involved in something special ie St Nazaire and the raids on Kronstadt in 1919.

Garth, I'm only doing Allied craft and I already have your Vosper book, it was the very first book I purchased about 2 years ago and since then I've purchased another 19 books with four more still coming.

:wave_1: Laurence,

Yes I certainly am, spoke to him only last night (my time) re plans of MGB 64 which will be a 1:24 scale R/C boat. I have photo's and a diagram came with the kit, but I think scale plans will be a great help as well. I also have quite a number of excellent books. One of the first books I obtained was "The Little Ships" by Gordon Holman who went to St Nazaire and the reason for doing MGB 64 was I then learnt about Robert Hichens, especially after reading his book "We Fought Them in Gunboats".

Sorry to waffle on, but I find this whole subject ABSOLUTELY AMAZING in that young men mostly 'hostilities only' officers and ratings went to sea in such small craft to not only fight the enemy but the sea itself !!

Hello from OZ, :wave_1:

I have just posted quite a large post in the Main Forum under the heading
"How many projects going on at one time?"

It only lists 51 models but as you will see the vast majority are very small (1:600) indeed.

Cheers, :wave_1: :wave_1:

Hey all,

Al might have this but I would take any help offered. Does any one have pictures of the stern of the vosper that has the chemical smoke holders? I would like to see what they actually look like on the real thing. The kit shows it as a bracket with some round tubing and I would like to see if the actualy thing look like that. So Al or any one else if you have a pic could you post it......?

Vosper MTB 57

Post by finnfan »

Has anyone got any pictures of MTBs 57 to 65 during the time I believe they comprised the 7th MTB flotilla in the Mediterranean. I have found a picture of MTB 61 wearing a disruptive camouflage scheme, and am looking for an authentic scheme for the White Ensign model of the Vosper MTB 57.
TIA
