Hi Jim Just getting my self sorted after having to change lap tops . Well the Rurik is still awaiting some dock yard workers but it still gets plenty of coats of looking at

For Jim Baumann really,
I tried to get Dave to finish the 'Rurik' before starting this monstrosity. Sorry but I just don't like this type of vessel. Yeuch! The modelling is great but the subject matter leaves me cold I'm afraid.

Sorry Dave, but you know my feelings on the 'Kneb'.

Gday Dave I see you haven't posted for a while how goes your model?

Mines come to a halt also for now due to cost over run and other bills that hit me to quick. Have to earn some cash before I can continue with the hull into fiberglass. My hope is to have my hull in fiberglass before the end of the year I HOPE. I tried to start construction of the superstructure but I found that I kept looking at the hull. Don't want to get ahead of myself, Hull First!

Hi Mick The Kiev build is progressing but it's mainly concentrating on all the small bits around the superstructure and as you know only to well there are lots of them, pipes , trunking in all directions and this has involved lengthy referrals to the enlaged photos . Trouble is it's hard most of the time to see , were the trunking starts and ends. I'll post some progress pictures up in the next few days .

Hi Kurt It's good to hear from you. Another problem that I've encountered is trying to tie down an accurate time period. I look at Kiev in the early 80s { time period I'm trying to keep to} then see Kiev as an attraction in China . There are of course a considerable number of differences but the later pictures are clear and full of real detail .Model building is not straight forward ?

Following on from the radar arrays . I�ve now accumulated quite a
number of build photos that can carry the Kiev forward but many are
of the rather mundane bits of fittings. So here goes back to the superstructure
with the armoured cabling tracked up to the Top Sail radar array .
The sequence is more or less self explanatory . This is followed by the
build sequence for one of two �Pop Group� missile directors These at
1:144 are not much larger than your thumb nail .

The build of the Pop Group Missile director . On the full size vessel this is
the guidance radar for the SA-N-4, sited on the inboard side of the
superstructure forward and the outboard aft. Basically the whole
director is a series of box and circular shapes, all cut from styrene.

Each of the individual fittings that surround the main array are displayed
here ready to be fitted.

Thanks gary . As for the Kiev being ready for the National warship day at St Helens, I doubt it very much . There is so much to do. Like your Bismarck there's so much in the way of fitting. problem is at 1:144 there's nothing available, so it's set to and make it or it'll never get completed.

Really really inspirational quality of cut and build!

Makes me continue on with 1/350 ROMA attempting to attain same crispness-- a bit smaller!!

Thank you Jim . 1:350, I'd need a miroscope and for any scale smaller an electron microscope.

Jim made a point regarding scales. Although these directors
are massive by Jim's models they are at 1:144 , Fiddly with
around 30 separate pieces to make . So I thought I'd post up
the two together. 95% complete , bar the paint! with a small
coin to compare.
