Ok, this is a question that has been bugging me for some time now:
Is there any analysis (book, article) of the use of torpedos by capital ships during WW1 extant?
I know of Lion firing a couple of torpedos during Jutland, with one hit claimed, but what's about other ships and other engagements?

Jutland: An Analysis of the Fighting by Campbell has some tables on torpedoes fired. I believe these are counted from the returns for each ship.
As to actual torpedo firings, you have to read through the entire text to pick out each attack and the estimated results.

If an unfriendly power had attempted to impose on America the mediocre educational performance that exists today, we might well have viewed it as an act of war.

Ah, thanks - actually, I had that in my hands last week, but only managed to glance over it before giving it back. Guess I'll have to pester the librarian again...Werner wrote:Jutland: An Analysis of the Fighting by Campbell has some tables on torpedoes fired. As I said Lion fired two (?) against Hipper's battlecruisers, one against Wiesbaden and three against the German battle line.Anonymous wrote:I always thought the torpedoes Rodney fired at Bismark were the only ones ever fired by one dreadnought battleship against another in anger.
Have to recheck Campbell's book.
