John - a belated Happy Birthday to you and continued good modeling! Thanks for the compliments on Wasp. I am putting her aside for now (it will probably become a holiday gift later on) so that I can prepare for a local IPMS event here in Poughkeepsie on Oct 20. Looks like I'll be finishing off my Trumpeter Essex in 1/350 for that contest. It's much further along than my 1/540 Forrestal, so Essex is my default choice.

Good evening everyone.

I've been quite busy, I haven't worked on my Nimitz for a long time. But this week end i went further.
I sanded it a lot, to get rid of the CA used to glue the PE parts along the hull.

I started building the Philippine Sea and Pinckney, both from Dragons in 1/700. It was only for fun, as working only on Nimitz would be boring in the long term.
So her's my fleet :

And, as the Nimitz is lacking tractors, and no one produces them in 1/700 (I emailed Jag, I'm waiting for an answer) I decided to fill the gap myself, and I sratchbuilded two of them. One tow mule, which is mostly a Trumpeter mule, on which I added length, a more detailed front, and I sanded its top, so it looks accurate for the scale.
The second one is the P-25 firefighting tractors, I used two italeri tractors from the Ronald Reagan kits, I took their rear wheels. And everything else is built with Evergreen styrene. Superglue was extensively used to fill small gaps, I applied it with a needle. (hence the color variation on the P-25).

And another pic, with a one euro coin to provide scale reference :

Now, the next step will be to use RTV molds to cast several copies of them, ten tow mules and two P-25 at least. I will get it at Microscale I think.

It's good to see you are back Kid. Thanks for your kind comments.
I'll probably modify slightly the P-25 before casting it. (only sand a bit more the front and add one detail or two, but I won't spend too much time on this). I've read many articles about casting and it doesn't seem too difficult.

Here's a pic of my previous carriers, the Independance is the oldest of them, I built it when I was 8. I still enjoy seeing it, as it reminds me of the beginning. Next to him, the Revell Enterprise, Nimitz and Constellation, along with the Heller Forrestal.

I also discovered that I have to modify my P-25. The wheels are too big on mine, so I will remove them, and drill the hole where they should be, before adding wheels made from plastic rod.

I won't resin cast them immediately as I don't have time for this right now.

Can you link some of those articles, it sounds interesting and since there arent any good 1/700 Harriers maybe thats the way to go. Scrach 1 then cast a bunch.

Hi ya Kid,was looking at your build of the FDR and I ask myself does the KID have photos of this ship?I don't know if you notice I put up a thread about building a 1/350 version for my buddy's dad.So if you do have old photos good buddy e-mail me.By the way my fingers are well and handle my tools good.NO MORE BIKES MAN!

I'm not working on any model at that time, although I'm casting a lot with plaster.(it's hard to get rid of air bubbles)

I've received a 1/700 scale Uss Dallas from Arii, and the good surprise is that there were two submarines : one full hull and one waterline with the water looking base.
I fill my stash faster than I can build, I guess it's a sign of modeling addiction. Yes, I'm back for good in this hobby.

So I have an Italeri USS Roosevelt kit. I'd like to build it as Reagan. My question to the good people reading this would be the following: Is this an easy conversion or am I just building another Nimitz-class and numbering it 76? I have downloaded a few good pics and it looks like I'd have to rework the island quite a bit. All comments and input are welcome.

Im pretty sure that the Island will be totally different than an earlier Nimitz, im not a carrier expert though. I just know that while they share the same hull a lot has changed since the first one.

Hahaha, no need to, i have found a perfect woman, i have most of the closet filled with my stash i brought over from UK and i can build my own workshop in the garden, so anyone out there got plans already prepared for a decent sized workshop, i am looking at 24' x 24' minimum.
