Well at least there is some good news about them being in the safest place, but if this unknown buisnessman is buying all the Plymouth's contents, there will not be anything to display, should the ships become a museum again.

That is a new one on me, we have been told that the vessels have been re posessed by the Crown. hmm? Somebody better tell the ex staff something soon.

Has there been any new news on this yet? I heard that either the U-Boat was going back to its Danish owner or to the U-Boat memorial at Laboe. I thought the other ships and HMS Onyx were being moved closer to the maritime museum at Liverpool.

Well, it appears that Bronnington has vanished without trace? And the Onyx has been sold to Barrow shipyard, we are guessing as to the fate of the Plymouth.

Plymouth may well end up in Plymouth or Chatam at my guess. Maybe Charlie has nicked the Bronnington

'Bronnington moved?!

I'm pretty sure I saw her a few weeks ago ahead of 'Plymouth' in Vittoria Dock, unless what I saw was a very odd merchantman.

I was in Birkenhead a fortnight ago and Plymouth and what seems like Bronnington, were at Victoria Dock. The German U-Boat has been moved about 400 yards from where she was and the original site of the Historic Warships, is now resembling a builder's yard, ready for work in converting the large warehouse complex into waterfront appartments.

Up date on the current situation regarding the re-location of HMS Plymouth. Well the news is, Plymouth will be on the move, probably in the New Year to a new berth at MILLBAY Dock Plymouth hopefully in time to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Falklands war.

nice to hear HMS Plymouth is going home

I had some fun times in an around Millbay docks, it was one of the areas' that i used to use as an instructor at the RN Hydrograhic school to train up new entrants into the survey branch. All our motor survey boats were fitted with 'K' GEAR and took some time to get used too. It was also our favourite spot to scran up, cant beat a good pot mess

i ve heard that plymouth is nt going home after all. once again the docks being sold for devlopment . aslo plymouth council just isnt intrested in her. they want to take a look at portsmouth at least they got the tourist idea . but i cant understand while portsmouth does take her to go alongside warrior , victory, m33, and mary rose.
what happened to u534 where did she go???

news.......I hear a rumour that U534 will be moved to Woodside and will be the main exhibit in a new indoor museum.

The administrators must visit U-505 in Chicago for what an impressive exhibit a German boat (U-505 is an IXb) can make as an indoor exhibit.

I would heartily endorse the movement of all remaining historic ships into indoor bunkers based on this example.

The latest news regarding U-534 is that it will be cut into three sections and transported about about half a mile to become a central attraction at the Woodside cross river Ferry terminal . Due to the restriction of the site the boat will remain in three parts.

According to the Liverpool Daily Post, the U-Boat will be cut into FOUR parts, I've also seen this in another local rag.

What ever, three or four, it's a disgrace.

Hi everybody,
I have just joined the site and have been reading this thread in astonishment.
My favourite draft, HMS CAVALIER used to sail from Liverpool during the war on convoy escort duties. Many other (Allied) escorts sailed from Liverpool also. Gladstone docks if I remember. The city obviously built up a great rapport with the crews of these escorts and I'm saddened that Wirral Council has decided to forget the debt that the city owes to these escorts AND their charges, the many Merchant ships that also sailed from Liverpool and area.
As somebody mentioned early on in the thread, they're blinkered when it comes to finances, that's all that appears to drive them.
Very, very sad times indeed.
