Enterprise WIP - Advice needed!

Post by jgrease »

So I'm banging away at my Revell Enterprise in 1/720. I have Starfighter Decals decals for the Big E as she was in 1962. After basic assembly, I have done the following:
-added PE railings and nets (should have done it after painting, but I wanted to see what would happen - never again! :Mad_6:
-shortened the mast to its' original height as per photos and added antennas to the island assembly from GMM supercarrier set
-basic painting and I have begun decaling
Here are photos of my build to date. I would like honest opinions and input as to what needs to be done. I know the centerline stripe should be yellow, and I have some yellow decal sheet to cover the orange ones as I progress. I am going to make the catapaults from dark decals. Other than that, here are the pics and some other questions:
Image
I've already mentioned the centerline, and I have said what I will do about the cats. I still have all of the other decals from Starfighter to add to the deck (elevator warning stripes, electrical outlines, JBD outlines, etc.) What else is needed here? Have I painted everything I can?
Image
Are the box shapes surrounding the missile launcher sponsons supposed to be white? I also have to add a large white strip across the end of the runway, which I have white decal paper for.
Image
Any other island markings? I just have to add railings around the lowered elevator. Also, I plan on adding a black wash to the elevators and then a dry brushing of steel to give them contrast to the deck. I was a little put off by the contrast of the black runway and gunship grey of the flight deck, but even the photos of early Enterprise have a real contrast.
As I asked, please be honest and let me know what's still needed. All advice is welcome.

The other John

Hi all, its been a little while since i last posted, anyways here are pics i took in 1996, USS John F Kennedy visited Portsmouth UK between 11/07/1996 - 15/07/1996 along with CVW-8, Tailcode AJ,

VF-41 - F-14A
VF-14 - F-14A
VFA-15 - F/A-18C
VFA-87 - F/A-18C

HS-3 - SH-60F/HH-60H
VAQ-141 - EA-6B

The quality isnt too good as my slides were stored in a damp area, but i think they are of use to someone building a JFK.

Hey all, I have a friend who has been offered a pair of Arii Forrestal CVs for $25 each. He has three questions: what is the quality like, what scale are they actually and what is a good price. Thanks :wave_1:

Hello everyone.
i haven't been posting for a while, that was for good reasons : the first was wallpaper, and the second is below :
Last year I started thinking about making flight deck vehicles in 1/700, and it's near completion :
resincasting.jpg
The blue thing in the lego is RTV rubber, from Micromark. Inside there are : one P-25 firefighting mule, one tow mule, and one spotting dolly (the hangar deck tow mule). The largest mold contains a steel turttle. (nothing to do with carriers, but I had more rubber than needed)

Really now I better understand the resin companies, it's a lot of work to cast resin. I used some files found on the internet to get the measurements of the vehicles, but I had to make minor changes, for instance the dolly would have been 1 mm high, in fact my model is a bit higher, otherwise it's too small.

For those who would like some tractors for their carriers, as promised I'm going to produce a set of 15 vehicles : two P-25, ten tow mules and three dollies, price will be twelve euros shipping included. I guess I could start shipping some by the end of march. This set will be suited for late 90's and 2000's carriers. (before that they used P-16 firefighting mules).

Comments or advices are welcome.
