Why is the edit post option disabled as soon as someone else posted something else afterwards?

I think you now get only a limited number of edits even before someone else posts.

Previously edit history visible to the user started only with the posting of an additional reply on the same thread. Since the anomaly prevented editing the original post after another reply had been given, the lost edit history that covered the period of anomaly would not have been of any great added value anyway to the user.

That's fine... the edit history was to protect later posters from misinterpretation due to revision of prior edits.
Since the new board, there has been no history display. Evidently in an attempt to restore the history mechanism we got all balled up.
