1/700 DRAGON Light Carrier

Post by NukeMM »

I have just complete my build of the 1/700 Dragon Premium Edition USS Independence CVL-22 kit. I chose to depict the USS Monterey CVL-26.

I just got back into ship modeling around Thanksgiving when I thought that I'd see if I could find models of either of the ships that my father served on in the early '50's. I found models for both of his ships, the USS Mindoro CVE-120 (Commencement Bay class by FleetNet) and the USS Duxbury Bay AVP-38 (Barnegat class seapane tender small by Iron Shipwright). I ordered both kits and in anticipation of their arrival, I purchased teh DRAGON Independence kit to hone my rusty modeling skills a little and to see what tools have or lost and what paints I have and which have dried up.

I received the Commencement Bay kit first and modified it into the Mindoro and finished just in time to give to m dad for Christmas. The Monterey kit went on the back burner while working on other projects.

I have just completed the Monterey, this weekend.

Here are a few shots of it.

Nice work!! These ships were real workhorses in the Pacific.

Thank you for the kind words, gentlemen!

I am always a little hesitant to post photos of some of my builds in this marvelous forum. I see so many masterpieces in these galleries, and I am but an amateur. I have learned to not take such close and zoomed in photos of my models. Fewer flaws show, that way.

I am always open to constructive critizism, tips and techniques, and historical and structural accuracies advice. If I can't change the errors, now, I will remember them in the future.

I have already been learning a lot from reading the online ship modeling forums.

Humbly yours,

Great job on the ship, and its good to see once more person from Nebraska here. Lesforan is the only other I know of.

Beautiful! And great looking waves as well. Looks like your hiatus from the hobby did not diminish your touch. I have an un-built Independence class and I'll keep your pictures for reference. :good_one: :good_job:
