The Prince of Wales and Queen Elizabeth CVs are in construction, but won't be available for a few more years.

I just saw the kit review for the Dragon 'Falklands 25th Anniversery' HMS Invincible and I'm confused...

Is the kit supposed to represent 'as during the Falklands War' ? It appears to me the instructions show the kit 'equiped as current' with Goalkeeper CIWS only... Wasn't The Invincible armed with 'Sea Dart launchers' only during that era?
So many models... So little time...

Jeffcsr - unfortunately a gremlin in Tim Dike's review means that the scans of the instructions aren't for INVINCIBLE - if you look at them, and their file names, carefully, they are for ILLUSTRIOUS (except for the front cover scan)! I suspect the kit is the original INVINCIBLE kit in a new box with photoetch and new decals. From memory the kit wasn't too bad, and fairly accurate for the Falklands period.

Aidan wrote:Hi guys, any views on the Harrier Carrier?. I've got two 1/192 scale R/C models, a rather battered Invincible R05 that just took a nose dive off the shelf (Falklands War version) and an extended flight deck version of Ark Royal R07. I've searched the web for info, as I want to rebuild Invincible and do a few bits and bods to Ark Royal, but I can not find anywhere that has decent plans, drawings, graphics etc of these ships, plenty of photo's but nothing on the hull below the waterline, the prop/rudder arrangement on my models are totally different to each other, so obviously one (or both) are wrong ( I got both models s/h fully built). Anyone know a good place to look. Also, where can I get 1/192 model Harriers and Sea King's from, there are some on both my models, (but I need a few more), so someone does make them, but I've had no luck finding any so far, I have asked on various aircraft site's, but the only answer I got was, and I quote " I know who makes them, but I'm not telling you" ( what a jerk-off). Any help would be really appreciated, as would any general thoughts and comments about these ships. I was in London in 2006 and took the wife to see the Cutty Sark, and low and behold, what was moored in the Thames, HMS Illustrious R06, I was very suprised that for a relatively small carrier, it is a very impresive looking ship when you see it for real, I even got some photo's taken with some of the crew, God bless 'em, cheers, Aidan. :thumbs_up_1:
Aidan,

I recently found some information at airbase.ru about Invincible, mostly some line diagrams, photos and text in Russian. I can send them over to you if needed.

Just a reminder note that I have a photo DVD of the 3 ships of that class, and also includes the other two carriers also called ARK ROYAL.
I call it Volume 42 the ARK ROYALS and has plenty of pics of the ships called ARK ROYAL starting with the WWII carrier.

Hello folks,
Well, I have HMS Illustrious from Airfix in my hands now. Lovely kit, hope to purchase WEM's PE for it soon. What a subject, did not expect to ever see it in 350th scale!
A few questions have cropped up though - exactly which period does the ship represent? She has the Sea Dart launchers removed in favor of a larger "parking spot" and for the airgroup has Sea Kings, Merlins, SHAR FA.2 and a GR variant (no idea which). A cursory search has the first Merlin (first service aircraft) and the last FA.2's somewhere between june 2000 and march 2006 - my best guess as to the time period. Was this combo of aircraft ever on "Lusty" at the same time? I was wondering exactly which type of RAF Harriers and which type of Sea Kings would have been there at that time - and the total number of each type of aircraft aboard at any one time for a full air wing. The Airfix provided Sea kings especially look like "vanilla" SH-3's without even the dorsal radar dome. Were they HAR rescue variants or AEW types? In both cases they would need a little work but still manageable.

Thanks for reading and best regards,
Maarten

HMS Invincible`s flight deck markings and vehicles, during the Falklands, were they toned-down like the rest of the ship.Anybody with any photos or info, please contact me.

Trust the government to want to scrap Ark Royal V "Immediately" and also possibly Lusty ( Or Ocean) as well. Airfix must be fuming having just brought out the Lusty kit in 1/350 only to find the real ships are very near razor blades !!
