I'm currently building a 1/700 USS Card, with PE. For whatever reason, my "3D spatial understanding" meter is not working and I cannot figure out how to build or where exactly to place the PE LSO net and platform.

The bending part is easy, but the instructions/guide is kickin' my butt on the rest.

Any help or pictures would be much appreciated.

Hey All!

I'm currently building the 1/700 Bogue class, USS Card, and need some help with the proper placement and installation of the photoetch LSO platform and net. The PE directions aren't all that clear. (Or at least, they aren't to me.)

Anyone have a couple of pics of the Bogue class, or better yet, USS Card's LSO platform they've built with PE?

Has anyone else built the FleetNet 1/700 USS Commencement Bay CVE-105 resin kit? I found it to be very nice, although it "was" my first resin model.

If you've done any models of this class in any scale, I'd love to see them!

I converted my kit into the USS Mindoro CVE-120 in her 1949-50 configuration. My father served on her, briefly, in 1953. In 1950 most of the guns were removed, but I thought that the model looked cooler with the guns, rather than without.

I did some scratch building on the island and Starfighter made some custom decals for me.

Andrew, Thanks for the kudos. It was fun to build and I love taking photos of my models. I'd love to see others' builds of this kit, in the future. I'm thinking about making another, someday. I have leftover Mindoro decals. One model for Dad, and one for me!

Does anybody knows if the Casablanca�s 5�gun tub had any kind of non-slip material, or non-slip strips, placed on the floor ??? I can�t find pictures anywhere...

Does anyone know if there is a complete list of all the workers that helped build the Casablanca class CVEs at the Kaiser shipyards in Vancouver? My Great-Grandfather worked there for 6 years during the war, and I suspect, he may have worked on building the baby flattops, but I'd like to find out some more information to be sure.

One a side note, do you know if the workers were assigned to work on building certain ships, or if they were just sent around the shipyard to where ever they were needed?

I would personally have no idea - it might be answered on the that website, or others. If you Google for "Kaiser Shipyard vancouver", you'll come up with a few hits.

I've seen some of the *Navy* records for the CVEs in the national archives and there's not a lot that would be of use to you... you'd probably need to see if any of the Kaiser records still exist.

Workers were generally tasked to a particular skill, thus some would bounce around whereas others might work on a ship a bit longer.

Thanks for the information guys. My Great-Grandfather wrote a lot of letters to his wife and daughter (my grandmother) during the war, which would likely tell what his particular job was, but unfortunately these were lost long before I was born.

Have you ever seen a picture or drawing of such a kind of "anti-slip" material installed in gun-tubs or any other open-type gun positions ??? I don�t recall seing them (for instance) in an Essex class 5�gun position...but I may be forgotten.

Sure, look at the pictures I posted on CV-16's Quad .50 cal mounts, particularly the shot of Mount 2, center of the top row.

Anti-skid was a new thing during the war, with a lot of variety though, so I don't know that the patterns would be the same on a CVE, for example.
