I love these little ships!!
I just spit out these two 20mm Gun Splinter Shields in about 1/2 hour. I was very, surprised with myself. I had been dreading them. But, I have been getting lucky with my scratch building endeavors, lately.
Now, I have to cut off the 20mm ammo lockers next to the crane and make new ones and relocate them along with a few more ammo lockers.

I made these 20mm ammo lockers, this morning.

Well, I've removed the molded-in 20mm ammo lockers next to the crane, made my own, and attached them.
I have also fabricated two 20mm gun tubs, p & s, as well as two sky lookout platforms, and attached the bulwark stiffeners to them all.

The backdrop is a piece of larger poster that I cut out, just for the sky and water horizon. The base is a sheet of Tamiya Ocean Effect Plate A, that I painted the bottom of.
I have a lot of projects in mind to do next. But keeping in line with the Barnegat class, I plan to make two more of these kits and convert them into the USS Greenwich Bay (AVP-41) and USS Valcour (AVP-55) which shared duties with the USS Duxbury Bay (AVP-38) as flagship for Commander Middle East Forces in the 1950's and 1960's. They were painted white, instead of gray, because of their extended tours in the hot Red Sea and Persian Gulf areas. The white helped to reflect the sun's heat, a little. They eventually got air conditioning in 1952.
This is my Dad's USS Duxbury Bay. I may make a third kit and build her again as a waterline model. I think the Valcour, Greenwich Bay, and Duxbury Bay would look cool sailing together on a water base.

This is a different sky poster that I use, sometimes.

Re: Calling all USS Barnegat class Seaplane Tender Fans
I just know that I'm going to bust one or all of these little things off between now and the completion of the model, but I just had to put them on now.
Search lights (YMW), Mk. 51 Gun Directors (YMW), Range Finder (scratch), and platform for a Mk. VI Computer (whatever that is) and a post for a radio direction finder.
Two Pelorous' (Paper Lab) will go outboard the range finder, and sky lookouts in the outboard sponsons.

Here's the 5"/38 open mount by L'Arsenal. It's very, nice. Hollow barrell tip, even. I said, "Forget it!" about the tiny little seats on it.

Re: Calling all USS Barnegat class Seaplane Tender Fans
Here is my Corsair Armada 5"/38 Cal turret.
The barrells that came with the turrets were a little square and bowed. I drilled a hole and used one of the L'Arsenal barretls from the open mount set.

And here are both 5" guns with a little primer on them.

The blast bags are part of the barrell piece in the kit of turrets. I cut off the barrell that came with this one, and drilled a hole in the blast bag and inserted a L'Arsenal barrell from the open mount set.

Re: Calling all USS Barnegat class Seaplane Tender Fans
I have created some smoke generators for the fantail. This is becoming quite the busy little fantail. The depth charge rack came with the kit. I'll be looking for some different ones, I think. I'll want to portray them as empty.
