Here is another of my favourites; the very handsome British built Messageries Maritimes steamship S.S. Bir Hakeim. Named for the battle between 26th May and 11th June 1942 in the Libyan Desert between Free French forces and German/Italian forces which helped turn the tide against Axis forces in North Africa......

M.V. MAROUA; a motorship built for the Fraissinet & Cyprien Fabre line as FRONTENAC for their Marseilles-New York service. After a year she was transferred to Chargeurs R�unis as MAROUA for their West African service. Then in December 1961 she was bought by China Navigation Company and was renamed TIENTSIN.
