Thank you Jimmy! And thanks for checking in, on this.

It was my intention, in the beginning of this thread, to instill more interest in this class of ships and the ISW USS Mackinac AVP-13 kit which is the only one out there. Besides myself, I have seen two versions from Richard Sliwka and two from Mike Taylor.

A lot of these ships were built and served in different capacities and configurations. Their resemblence to DEs or DDs is attractive, too.

The thread has turned into a bit of a WIP thread, but Tim, Timmy, and Sean are letting me continue. I welcome any and all contributions to the topic, here.

I thought that I'd add little technical-like info to this "Calling All Ship Fans" thread with a few Profile and Aerial Plan Drawings showing some of the variations from original ships of the class.

The variations, shown in these basic drawings, lie in the weapons and small boat arrangements and types.

The PT Boat Tender Version had one special variant within, itself. The USS Mobjack AGP-7 was just a little different than the other three. All three, however, lacked a wind screen shield around the front of the bridge and had two twin 40mm mounts at the #2 Location forward of the bridge. All three also had additional superstructure compartments near the stern to accommodate a larger torpedo repair shop and an engine repair shop.

A large chunk of these ships were built to this basic plan. AVPs 33, 34, and 48-52:

I thought that I'd share some of the drawings that I have been using in my USS Oyster Bay AGP-6 build.

These are General Arrangement Drawings. Note the bottom of the first image, the differences, aft, between the Mobjack (AGP-7) and the other three AGPs.

These are nice drawings of the location and types of railings. There are even drawings of which railings were canvas covered. I have drawings showing things like cable and hose reel and ammo ready service locker locations. Even the rigging for the boat booms and accommodation ladders and bomb booms.

Hi, Carl

This is a very ineresting and informative site. Thank you for directing me here.

Might you have a reference for plans (as displayed in the posts above) for Barnegat and Biscayne, showing their original 1941-42 seaplane-handling facilities, including the large crane aft and the clear fantail?

R/David

You just had to ask me that one, didn't you David? :Mad_6: :doh_1:

The large file of plans that I have from the NARA (RG-19; File-5971) are drawings of "differences from AVP 10-13" and have everything but the Barnegat, Biscayne, Casco, Mackinac, Humboldt, and Matagorda.

This file refers to File #5690 which is supposed to be for the early Barnegats, but the NARA doesn't have this file on micro film like the 5971 that I have copies of.

So, sorry. And I hate to let you down, like this, after telling you that I could help. I think that Richard built his mostly from photos, but he might have some sort of drawings or plans.

If you decide to build a different AVP, let me know!

Here is an index of the useful stuff from the micro film reels of File 5971. Some of these items may also pertain to those early Barnegat class ships.

I don't have Reels 11-14 and Reel 6 has absolutely nothing of value to ship modelers; just lists of nameplates.

Hi all,
I search for the pos. "USS Barnegat (AVP-10), 1941-1958 - Booklet of General Plans" shown at: http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/sh-u ... vp10-x.htm
but in higher res. Initially I did as was advised at http://www.history.navy.mil/branches/org11-3.htm (link included in forementioned page) but that gave nothing. I can't simply go there and ask for copies. Does anybody have that booklet (or rather scans, I guess)? I need that for 3D model of this unique ship. TIA.

Piokas,

I have saved/downloaded those same images from that site that you referenced, and they are not of very, good quality, are they?

Are you looking for "the" USS Barnegat plans or will some of another ship of the class, due. The Floating Drydock has Booklet of General Plans for USS Unimak AVP-31. They'd be pretty good for 3D applications. Also, they have plans, including hull lines, for USCGC Bering Strait WAVP/WHEC-382 which was the former USS Bering Strait AVP-34.

I have digitized plans for the AVPs other than the very first ones of the class, but very view detailed profile views or hull lines drawings of them.

If you are looking for "the" USS Barnegat plans, I might suggest the services of Tracy White, Researcher at Large.

http://researcheratlarge.com/

Also, there are the Bering Strait plans on eBay.com here: http://cgi.ebay.com/U-S-C-G-seaplane-te ... 2c4ddc43b2

And the single page Barnegat Plans, here: http://cgi.ebay.com/seaplane-tender-APV ... 2c49fbb5b1

Both of the plans, above, are what I have and the Bering Strait ones are the same that The Floating Drydock has.

Thanks, again, Heiko!

You know that I'm always looking forward to what you're working on, too! :wave_1: :worship_1:

These additional details are a lot easier in 1/350 than 1/700, but I'm a 1/700 modeler at heart. If there were any 1/700 AVPs, I'd be building them, instead.

Thanks, Jepot! Its nice to know you're still around and still thinking about your 1/700 projects. Keep me informed of any progress, won't you?
