Continuing on the plodding along, another update on the Sovremenny II. More paintwork, more detailing. Some of the life rafts are on, most of the Fire Control and ECM sets are in place. Base for the Top Plate is on, and the Kashtans are finished. I also took my first try at a brass mast - I was unsatisfied with the original plastic mast, so I took a whack at one of the brass masts in the kit - nine pieces to build it, but it looks good I think. I didn't add the extra fiddly bits, satisfied with the austere basic of the mast itself. Anyways, pics!

Simon the enclosed launchers give the ship a bit more modern appearence. It is impressive What did you use for the launchers???

The launchers were built off the original Moskit tubes - I just didn't include the faceplates. I took putty, filled around them, squared off the edges, and blended it back to the bulkhead. The louvres were from an Arleigh Burke Set from Flyhawk, and the new launcher faces are 1/16" square tile from Evergreen - roughly the same dimensions as the Mk41 VLS cells. I got it in a sheet of two foot by three foot, and then just cut the dimensions I need off afterwards.

Cliffy, my Laya started as a modification of a Dragon Pegasus kit, the one that comes as a goodie with their OHP kit. But it soon turned out to be mostly scratchbuilt. There is a full build up article in our spanish forum, here: http://www.u-modelismo.com/foromodelism ... pic=1169.0

Text is in spanish, but most pictures are auto-explanatory. Anyway, if you need some clarification, feel free to ask.

I just recieved my package from JAG. The carrier deck vehicles are awesome. The details on them are brilliant. Now I need a CVN to go with them.

Quite an interesting collection there, Nektarios - two Abukuma DE's, five Perries, four with RAM and all with VLS and SPS-48, and are those Knoxes? I can see the slanted bridge bulkhead, so I would surmise they are, so I'm curious what you're doing with those knoxes.

EDIT - My bad, they're Hatsuyuki DD's... that explains the "those look like Spruances" moment I had a while ago when looking the first time. Curious to see where you go with those, my friend.

Enjoying the pictures of SoCar. My boat was in the adjacent drydock in NNSY during when SoCar was receiving her Phalanx and overhaul back in about 1984. Still my favorite class of nuke cruiser. Wish someone would develop a set of plans as I would like to build a 1/96 scale.

Wrench, Check to see if Wiswesser ever made any drawings. I know he did of the Virginia class. They may not be totally accurate (probably aren't as the Virginia plans weren't), but they would be the only game in town since the gov'ment isn't going to release any plans EVER
John, Great job on the South Carolina Its nice to finally see some things that we have produced over the years being built. Your So. Carolina, and Carls Josephus Daniels are just the thing to brighten my day.
