Enjoying the pictures of SoCar. My boat was in the adjacent drydock in NNSY during when SoCar was receiving her Phalanx and overhaul back in about 1984. Still my favorite class of nuke cruiser. Wish someone would develop a set of plans as I would like to build a 1/96 scale.

Great fleet of Nanuchka's there Nektarious. I removed the entire masts and created masts from stretched sprue. There are numerous errors in this kit, but at least it resembles a Nanuchka and they are quick builds after all.
Will you make a diorama with them? Put them in a port or something similar?

Thank you Neptune. These kits were good for their time but they are no match for todays kits. I do not intend to make a diorama or something similar.

It's been a little while since I showed something in here, but hey, that's the kind of guy I am. I got a few things in the last couple of days, so a couple of my projects got a little attendance. First up, the Frunze got the radar set I wanted to put on her for short range work - Plate Steer. I got this in the Flyhawk Russian Radar set - Beautiful set, mind the fiddly bits, like the back of the Top Steer/Plate Steer dishes, they're spindly and touchy. All told, I think it came out nicely. That said, the Long Beach got the start of her new tower - no, that stack is not staying, I'm just not entirely sure what to do with that yet - do I turn it into a deckhouse, do I cut it off, I'm not sure just yet. Ideas welcome. Anyways, enough talk, time for the thousand words part - Pics!

Since the Long Beach was a nuke, might I inquire as to what purpose the Arleigh Burke funnel superstructure part is to be used for? The Long Beach did have an exhaust vent for a diesel generator IIRC, but the turbine inlet/outlet is a bit of overkill for something like that.

OR,

Is the plan to use a Long Beach hull and fit it with a conventional up-to-date power plant, of which the Arleigh Burke superstructure parts would be ideal

The conjectural "Strike Cruiser" used the Long Beach hull, but with a "bridge area" much akin to what you see on the Arleigh Burke class. Not the same of course, but along those lines. If it is a nuke, I could see losing the funnel part. But hey, that's what so fun about doing what ifs and "never built/but planned" ships. Keep up the good work.

Simon you could always use the funnel as the base of your mast... Level the top of it with the deck and build from there on... so you get a high structure, a clear bridge with room for a couple of sensors more and a base for some antennas and domes on the funnel pyramid...

I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with the stack part - it's got the IIA Burke stack top parts, so it can be mostly levelled off, and I can fill those to give it a little more edge. I'm also planning to put a larger gun mount up front where the forward Mk10 was. I Could also suggest that she's been partially modified into CONAG layout, similar to the Kirovs, to provide redundancy in the event of a reactor scram situation. The cells in the center are not yet fully finished, but they're going to be four IRBM tubes. I'm also planning Phalanx and RAM launchers, and the aft structure will be modified with a hangar facility as well to improve her capabilities. The entire plan is something in the Strike Cruiser style, though with a variety of options at her disposal.

Simon both your kits look great. I have to notice that the VLS cells between the two Mk-45 are too close to them. Maybe you should reposition these cells fore of the guns. There is plenty of space there.

Not a bad idea, Nektarios - I was somewhat thinking that might be a proximity problem with the guns, but it seemed the most logical position for the four IRBM tubes. I've been similarly toying with what to do with the former ASROC position, I guess that solves both questions.
