1/200 nagato scratch built

well its time for rigging,i try'd streched spruge,it works fine but,i get a few done and them one will let go .my main problum is 2 years ago i crushed my left thumb,it now does not bend and has no feeling.and i am left handed.try'd thin thread but it does not look great.i went to a sporting goods store and found a very thin fishing line used for fly fishing leeder,it is about 2 lb.breaking strength and only .127mm thick.i will more than likly use thread for davits and cranes as the fishing line will not hang right when going through blocks and pullys.

This type of material is often used by aircraft modellers for rigging wires on biplanes. One problem with it is that it is usually clear with no colour, an obvious advantage when used as a leader when fly fishing. Hovever it can easily be coloured with a felt pen prior to being fitted. If sagging after being fitted it can be tigthened, just like stretched sprue, by moving a hot object closely along the line.

hi dave,i just take a couple of wraps then a tiny dab of cyanoacrylate insta cure glue applyed with a sharpe needle.because it is nylon and not spruge it does not melt it.also you can bump it around with out it braking,.with smaller models it might be a little over size,but it works for me.

a little follow up on the rigging,the nylon paints very well,i just take a brush with a fair amount of paint on it and run it down the line.because the line is fairly strong there is no fear of braking it.,also a couple of pics of the signal deck.

Hi Russ Did you paint the line white? I've never used nylon line I tend to stick with metal thread under the trade name Krenik but the line you have used seems exceptionally fine, finer in fact than the metal thread. The Nagato is looking simply superb .Will you be mounting the model in a glass case? I have ordered the case for Kiev but I�ve yet to make the base.

hi dave ,yes i did paint the signal flag lines white,i think thay are rope and the other lines are more than likely steel cable , or wire rope.i will have to do some research on this because in them days it was more than likely manila rope which was probably a tan color,not white.the line i used is so fine it is hard to see it before it is painted,i realy had to squint my eyes to get the brush bristles over it oh ,yes it will have a case ,made from shelving and acrylic i use acrylic because it is lighter than glass.i did one out of glass years ago and it took 2 people to move it.

thank you,109,steve,papadakis,trm,andrew,dave,norbert,and all the other outstanding builders on this forum.i would like to tackle graf spree or sheer in 1/144,i have heard some say this scale has very little in the way of photo-etch and other fittings,and would not build in it.dave seemed to find most every thing he needed,what do you guys think.the reason i would like to build one of these ships in this scale is to keep the length to around 50 in.i would love to build in 1/100 or 1/128 but i do not know were the heck i would keep it

Well done. Beautiful model. The amount of detail that goes into a build like this is amazing. I enjoyed watching your build and look forward to the next one. You mentioned you could be looking at Graf Spee or Scheer, I would go with Scheer or Lutzow. They are the less modelled of the trio and therefore I think more interesting.

thank you joachim,gary and james.James i will probobly go with Sheer, i would like to do her with her atlantic bow and funnel cap,it makes her stand out from the graf spree.i am still waiting for plans,which will have to be enlarged from 1/200 to 1/144.it will take some careful changes to the bow frames because there is more than likely more shear and height to the bow area.will have to find some pics of this area.so far i only have 1 pic of her in this configuration, and it is not very clear.hello dave heres some pics of my case.it is a shelve 48" long and 10"wide with 1/4 " acrlic for the cover.also a winter pic of the pond behind my place just to let you know we do get snow on vancouver island .still waiting for plans to come,i am getting a little anxious,i hate waiting.oh by the way the cabint is the reason i have to stay under 52" in length,that as wide as it is,i am going to have to sell or give some of these ships away i am running out of room
