Bofors CAD files sought.

Post by Ramjet »

Gday!

I am working on a model of the HMAS Melbourne and wondered if anyone had CAD files of the single or twin Bofors I could use to save me a few days research and even more drafting?

Your contribution will be acknowledged, and as I said it would save me a ton of time in research and drafting, especially if a member here has already done same.

Thanks in advance.

Dave.

I have one reference to MkV twin mounts and MkVII single mounts.

I appreciate your help.

Dave,

I know of one fellow who is making CAD drawings for the dual and quad 20mm. I'll ask around.

You are a step ahead of me. I plan to make those drawings when I get around to the CAD model of the original USS Oklahoma City CL-91. That's still years away.

I'll save you a copy. ;)

I have WW2 USN bofors, but would have to make significant changes to them before I could share them with anyone.

In these days of heightened security, I understand if you have to erase the firing pins.

Thanks CadMan.

It's not that, it's that I sold the CAD to Dragon. So I would have to change my model significantly before I share the actual file with anyone.

My apologies. I was trying to be funny, mate. I figured it was something like you explained. :))

Ramjet,

John Lambert has some drawings you might be interested in. I have found his drawings to be the absolute best resource for British weapons.

L/O/50 Mk V 40mm mount, 3 sheets
L/O/70 Mk VII single 40mm, 5 sheets

John really likes giving you a discount if you order a lot of drawings, so don't be afraid to order more than what you will use on this one project. I have something like 10 or 12 of his sets and they are all excellent. You can find his email address on his website (http://www.lambert-plans.com) and while he says on there not to order through email, he has done it for me twice now.

I have seen US Navy drawings of the dual and quad 40mm. How do they differ from the British versions?

There is no correlation between the two except for the guns themselves.

OK, I can infer a lot from those pics. Looks like the gun barrels, yoke and base are the same. But I needs some elevation drawings to get the shield right.

The "Anatomy of The Ship" volume on the HMS Belfast has orthographic drawings of the RN Mk V Twin Bofors circa 1959 complete with shield on page 96.
