I haven't got the new Ise so, I can't say if the barrels are better. Could be.

A question about the hasegawa Ise/Hyuga kits. Are there actually any differences bewteen the kits? The sprue all says Ise/Hyuga which implies they are interchangable.

I have the Ise kit in the BB setting and is rather confused by part D11. Specifically the lower part of D11 where it connects with D9, seems to be of the wrong shape for Ise (it looks OK for Hyuga). It should not be a block but rather just supports the upper structure. There's a gap between D11 and D9 and D9 has its own roof cover.

It appears at one stage the Ise kit do have the correct part, see this review. The correct part is F4.
http://www.ipmsusa2.org/reviews/Kits/Sh ... 00_ise.htm

But not the case with the kit I've got (both the normal and high grade version of BB Ise). Pictures I've seen of Ise pre-conversion and post conversion both show this feature, so it is not specific to BB version.

Can someone confirm if Hasegawa mixed up Hyuga and Ise features in their kit? Btw, Fujimi's Ise has the same shape as Hasegawa. I think it is wrong.

Photos of IJN Ise in the Kure harbor after the war, confirms that both Hasegawa's version and Fujimi's is correct.
The F4 part you mention was present in IJN Ise only at trials, during 1943. Picture taken from 1943 Ise's trials confirm that, while pcitures from 1944 -1946 confirm that IJN Ise's version of Hasegawa's and Fujimi's is correct.
So according to the available pictures that part of the pagoda was modified and was similar to IJN Hyuga's after the sea trials of 1943. What exact date and what was the reason for that change is unknown.
If you look at pictures of IJN Ise taken from USA planes and in the harbor of Kure during late 1945 early 1946 you will see the difference and absence of the F4 part from a 1943 sea trial picture.

Thanks for the clarification Atma. I'm building the BB version so I guess I'll have to do some scratching. If only I had both Hasegawa's BBCV and BB setup then I can just do a straight swap of parts. In anycase I do prefer the 'broken up' look than all levels connected flush like a concrete slab.

The "broken appearance"/part F4 was not installed on IJN Ise during her all gun version of her.
It was only present during the late 1943 sea trials.During her early years in the WWII when she was still a "pure" battleship, her Pagada was similar to IJN Hyuga, that means all levels connected almost flush like a concrete slab.

Edit:I assume Hasegawa had in mind a 1943 version of IJN Ise, but they mixed up the parts as they include the extra AA platforms that was installed for the extra AA in 1944. So you end up in a 1943-1944 mix with Hasegawa's IJN Ise in her hybrid aircraft carrier/battleship mode.

Based on the these 2 pictures the two levels are not flush, and support is visible below the top level as well as the roof on the lower level.

Granted, one is clearly of Ise on trial in '36 without all equipment but the other is not.

The 1/110 model by A.Kamei depicts the same...

The part of the Pagoda in the red cirlcle is actually windows covered with a sheet of canvas. Gakken vol.26 Ise class.
The second picture is labeled as a 1936. Actually the IJN Ise and IJN Hyuga at 1936 had no AA platforms arround the funnel that time.

Check this build from Jeff Lin:
http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery ... index.html
Jeff Lin used an extensive search for this build and is pretty much accurate. Fujimi's new IJN Ise in 1/700 and in 1/350 is actually the same.
Can you post a link of A.Kamei IJN Ise in 1/110 please.

I'm only referring to the small 'gap' between the two levels where background sky clearly shows through, in the centre of the red circles. It appears between 2 bridge levels they are not flash, and there are small triangular supports underneath the top level that goes all the way back into the tripod mast. On the kit, it's represented by a square block that forms both the bottom and the roof of the 2 levels.

Mr Kamei's Ise is the one on the cover of Gakken 26..and covered again in Gakken's IJN fleet scale model photo book. Now that I had closer look it appears the kit part's 'block' is about 1mm too high as well which contributed to the odd look.

Jeff Lin's Ise is the hybrid version, so I'm assuming what you said about the same part on the hybrid version is correct but since I'm not building it not going dig up a picture to confirm.

Oh thank you, now I understand very well what you first said and you mention.
Hasegawa's, both all gun version and hybrid version got that issue wrong, Fujimi from the other hand has produced an accurate version, almost similar to the Mr Kamei's Ise.
And the reason why Im saying almost, is that Mr Kamei's IJN Ise is a pre-1943 version, in 1943 till her demise in a scrapyard in 1946-1947, IJN Ise had a some minor alterations in her pagoda.

Potchip, notice also that the type 14 1,5 m small rangefinder was removed after IJN Ise and IJN Hyuga reconstruction to a hybrid AircraftCarrier/Battleship.
Mr Kamei's Ise seems to omit the rangefinder, in his pre reconstruction to a hybrid AircraftCarrier/Battleship IJN Ise.
Fujimi's IJN Ise got only the base for the rangefinder, wich is correct, cause is post reconstruction.

Quick question, IJN Ise and IJN Hyuga had single 25mm AA's on their aircraftdeck added mid 1944, any other locations that the single 25mm AA's can be found or just the aircraftdeck ?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Atma.

How different is Ise from Hyuga? What adjustments should be made to Fujimi Ise kit to make Hyuga?

After 1943, mostly minor difference in bridge and mainmast, also I think some small difference mostly exhaust pipes in the funnel.
Anyone else can give more specific answers ? I was wondering the same as Mermaid.
Thanks in advance.
