Work on this AVP is winding down, soon. Just some more rigging, the cranes, the bomb booms, another boat boom, the forecastle railings, the turrets need to be permanently attached (and maybe another squirt from the air brush), and 4 x 20mm guns and a bunch of sailors and pilots about the decks.

I have completed rigging the forward part of the Retrieving Sled rigging and the port boat boom. I think this rigging is believable and not totally accurate. I'm trying to portray this feature from a photograph.

I have my two Kingfishers done with one ready to launch (catapult has yet to be leveled off and attachd permanently but, I think the plane is going to clear everything. The second Kingfisher is standing by on the fantail. I plan some tie down lines for this one.

The ship isn't attached permanently to the water, yet. That still needs some touching up before and after the ship is mounted to it.

The tan line going from the bow to the boat boom is a strand of speaker wire that is one of several strands, as it comes. I don't know what gauge it is. It is nice for shaping in the slack and wrapping around bitts and I make it into piles of coiled and flaked-out rope, too. If I had some thinner wire, in the house, I might try that out, too. Telephone wire is difficult, for me, to strip the insulation from and I'd have to strip every piece that I use. With the multi-strand speaker wire, one stripping of the insulation and you have a bunch of wires at your disposal. And I dispose of a lot of it. Ha!

The smaller line on the boat boom, itself, is invisible thread from Walmart and is .004". (So, I'd say that your .007" is pretty straight right on, Russ.)

The boat boom is .015" brass rod.

Woah! I'm in luck! , my uncle has plenty of unused multi strand wire, I think almost a few meters long! I can't wait to try this technique, its so cool!!!

Here, I have rigged the remainder of the retrieval sled where it is staged for pending retrievals.

I have two 20mm guns done, two to go.

The two cranes are just about the next step. I have a dilemma concerning them during a launching operation. I am wondering if they would have been rotated out of the way (i.e. towards the stern). The only place that I think that I will learn the right answer is most likely from a veteran who served aboard her or a pilot who trained aboard her.

Any assistance with tracking down a veteran or pilot from this ship would be most appreciated. Russ2146 is already on the hunt, for me, too. And as a side note, I want to attach the cranes, soon, and finish up this model by April 30th, for a contest.

At first I thought that you found something wrong with the lines that I scribed in the hull. I thought that when you said "hull seems", I read this as "hull seams". Ha! Ha! at myself.

Yes, these ships sometimes ran a little low in the back, so to speak. My model may be cut a little higher on the hull, at the stern, than the Oyster Bay but, the Oyster Bay was cut a little high at the bow. The models that I have cut for other modelers, on my band saw, are lower at both the bow and stern so that those modelers can adjust them, as they need.

I kind of intend for this one to look low in the stern, thus the angle of the boot topping, which is actually right where it should be. I am also trying to portray the Absecon as taking on some small swells while launching an aircraft, and leaning a little to the starboard side. It may come out more level, port to starboard, than I had orginally intended, though.

Well, the cranes are attached. I've gone with placing them facing the bow. The Kingfisher will just clear the cranes when the catapult is leveled and attached permanently.

Still touch ups due on the water base then attach the ship, to it, and some more touch ups.
