The molding has totally transformed the bookcases, I normally get mine from Walmart, 3 and 5 shelf, I intend putting a display in my lounge with glass shelves so that the lighting will shine down from the top, seems I have a way forward now.

Yep, the molding makes it look fancy and the white takes away the cheap particle board look as well. I forgot about JAXCON. I might be able to do that.

Good evening friends,
I need some help fellows..... I went to start my (Trumpter) USS LEXINGTON 1/700 scale and as I started making plans for the build I noticed something really bad wrong, I have no instructions for this kit, I have the color diagram, and the modifaction sheet but no instructions. I have had this kit for sometime and can not return it since the store went out of business.

If anyone has the instructions for this kit, if possible can I get a copy? I have set this kit aside for the time being until I can get instructions for it.

So..... I went to the stash and pulled the TICO out and have began modist work on it. I have had to take a break from all those CVN's and needed to refocus on a new ship. So, again if anyone has these instructions laying around and would not mind giving me a copy plaese let me know.

Well just came in from a VERY COLD workshop, spent about four hours out there working on my TICO, all main parts where built and added to the hull, added puddy to some seams to get them to blend better, and boy did it turn out great. Turned out better then I had hoped for, did an express cure on the puddy and sanded losing very little detail which is always a concern when you don't have PE hatches and things like that to replace damaged details. Then after giving a good cleaning and wash I primed the hull, hangar bay, and all the parts. While waiting for that the dry I started fitting piieces to the flight deck. All in all a great day of building and watching something finally come together. After a few days allowing the primer to cure properly I'll lay out the camo and start that.

I was also poking around the stash and found a few more ESSEX class kits and looking forward to starting them as well.

Ok i need some more help on my 1977/78 nimitz.
I got some nice resin tractors (the correct style for that era )but:
A)Dont know which ones are painted yellow and which ones white (if any)
B)They dont come with any decals so i need to know what type of numbers or other form of insignia they were using that would be visible in that scale.
C)Doesnt anyone make a resin tilly ?

A- all yellow for your era
B- starfighter makes a tractor decal set, with numbers for the top and sides, and stripes if you so desire.
C-no. there is no aftermarket tilley available for your era.

Yeah, unfortunately there is no tilly crane available. You can do what I did and borrow the crane from Tamiya's 1/350 Enterprise. It's not perfect but it's a heck of a lot better than Trumpeter's sorry effort.
Most of the deck equipment is yellow with the exception of the fire fighting tugs.

hope everyone had a great Saturday, I had to work at the plant so mine was ok, I am looking forward to my next day off so hopefully I can get back to building on the TICO, but did get to order a couple of ships for my modern cv / cvn rebuild program. KITTY HAWK and ENTERPRISE are now ordered and soon will be here.

well got some thing's heading to the slipway, won a trumpy kit on bay, NIMITZ and got it for 27.00 couldn't believe it. I've got a couple of kits, CVN-65 and CV-63, coming that I ordered online. I'm hoping for them to be here in about two weeks. I can't wait for them to get here, still trying to find a couple of MIDWAY's. I keep checking ebay and the websites but non found yet. I'm just starting to get replacements kits for those that where distroyed. Wish me luck my friend.

Guys, I highly recommend this putty/filler, Deluxe Materials Perfect Plastic Putty 40ml, it is acrylic put it on, wipe off excess with finger/damp cloth/ear bud minimal sanding no shrinkage. hardly any loss of surrounding detail, I got my first batch of ebay, but my local hobby shop now stocks it

Jim, that's great news, if you can find the 1/800 ARII USS Enterprise(modern) the island is a perfect fit for the 1/720 revel kit. Good luck with the Midway search, they pop up now and again.

Evening everyone,

I came home to a fun surprise. The chairwoman of this house's armed services committee appropriated $20 toward an unopened 1/500 Trumpeter Nimitz! I realize the airwing isn't great but I figure it'll be a fun build to try and grow the scratchbuilding skills.

Not sure if you've seen it by now but the Revell Germany website is showing the Hornet (CVS-12) as a new release in 1/530 scale. No date at this time.

Now, I have a question for anyone, need help finding the 5" turrets for a Forrestal build 1/700 scale, does anyone know where to find them?

I have 2 of said turrets in my spares, they came off the weapons sprue from a Dragon DML 1/700 Arleigh Burke model kit if I remember correctly. I used the barrels for part of my Saratoga island, but the turrets are untouched.

Well worked a tiny bit in the shop today before I came to work. TICO has 1color of camo pattern on port side, the IKE has flight deck painted, and VLA 's are being painted on TRUMAN. So much to do oh so little time. More to follow soon.

Hey everyone,

Here is the state of my CVN-70 build. Since these pics were taken I have been working on the hangar deck and correcting some mistakes.

The ship with the island and deck dry fitted:






Here is some of the airwing. Still have to acquire more airframes. I have tried two methods. The aircraft still on the sprues I painted with the airbrush and will assemble them later. The two lose Tomcats I assembled first then hand painted. Still deciding which method to go with and I will see after I assemble the pre-painted planes.








I now have a couple of question for you carrier experts:

When building up the airwing for a carrier do you make the actual amount of aircraft assigned to that CVW or only a percentage therre of?

Since I can't find decals for every squadron I want to portray, is there a template availiable somewhere that I can use to make my own?

What era CVN-70 are you building? I have a set of decals I created for Carl Vinson for CVW-11 for their 1998 ish cruise. One of the Skywave/Pit Road 700th scale aircraft kits have CVW-15 decals for Vinsons trip around the horn that I made a supplemental set for.

I can email you the sheets and you print them on a laser jet onto decal paper. It is not really that hard and they look very nice when done.

I generally build half an airwing or maybe 60% if I am populating the hanger at all. Unless you are using the clear deck, if building the Trumpeter Kit, there is no real reason to do a whole airwing. It really depends on how crowded you want the flight deck.

I am building her as she was in 2001 when carrying out the early attacks of Operation Enduring Freedom. If you have the same airwing decals done please send them to me. Send me a PM and I will give you my email address to send to. I have experience working with DIY decals so no worries there. I just needed a template or something.
