Hi Christian,
you can argue also the other way around, i.e. Trumpeter is favouring strongly the 1/350 scale. How many kits were released in 1/700 this year?

Maryland, Warspite, Z 30, Z 7, and Barham (= 5)

1/350:
Iwo Jima, Takanami, Taizhou, Montrose, Westminster, Type 071, Fort Worth, Warspite, Indianapolis, Dreadnought, Eskimo, and Belfast (= 12).

;)

For sure, HobbyBoss released some 1/700 kits (most of them already available in 1/350 from Trumpeter), but e.g. their new submarine 1/350 kits are mostly not available in 1/700 in plastic.

But I agree to some point: it is very strange that Trumpeter releases some of their kits in both scales and others only in one.

Well Maxim,

I will for sure not start any dispute between the scales here or something like this. When I take a simple look on Trumpeter only, you are right in number of last releases so far, but in total they have about 20 ship kits in 1/700 more as in 1/350 (90 against 70).
I don't find the thread again and in which forum it was, but somewhere a guy made a good year or so ago the big work of a list for all existing 1/350 and 1/700 kits in plastic and resin. In detail there were of course ships existing in 1/350 and not made in 1/700, but the pure sum of all existing kits of all manufactures shows about 20% more kits in 1/700 as in 1/350 ...

But I agree with you that it is really strange what Trumpeter and others do. :wave_1:

Hi Christian,
for sure, in total there are much more 1/700 kits than 1/350 kits - the main reason why am building 1/700 kits ;)

Only Trumpeter is - especially in regard to modern ships, especially modern Chinese ships - recently not really in favour of 1/700 (and AFV Club, Academy...). But Trumpeter have done a lot for 1/700, because they released a lot of new kits, when other companies released not much anymore.

Cheers

Hello Lars,

1/700 is for me much too small, so out of question for me.
However,
I'm quite happy for the new Tsaerevitch because Russo-Japanese War is my core area of interest in ships. But I hope this not only an exceptional model of them and other ships will follow (particularly Japanese).
But this war and it's ships is a good example why I'm little bit upset too when some responsible people tell rubbish of that no good drawings and blue prints existing of a ship. Well, and out of what source did they then make an existing 1/700 kit of this and that ship?

Cheers

Looks to be a modified Leander class light cruiser. I'm guessing it will be HMAS Sydney. Who's releasing this?

Heh. Google translate reveals that most of the posters believe/know that it's a 700 scale Trumpeter release. Perhaps it's based on the Belfast molds? I do not know enough about British CAs to know how similar the two classes may be.

They were completely different ships in hull form and armament.

If the picture indicates which ship is depicted that is not Sydney, because she never got the 4 in twins. It is either Hobart or Perth.

Its gotta be the HMS Aurora. Fitting because it saw both KMT and CCP service. Mutiny by pro-communist sailors and damaged by a Nationalist bombing raid.

I believe they're saying it's -not- Trumpeter - lots of suspicions that it's by Flyhawk, as part of their new 1/700 injection line.

Blandcorp's guess is in line with what the posters on that board are saying as well - Chongqing, ex-Aurora.

Ups, yes, that has to be a cruiser of the Arethusa class, because there are only three 6 in twin turrets...

Dragon 1/700 Oakland set for re-release in November:

(They're sure to re-release Pennsy next, now that I sprang for one on eBay
Fortunately I got it for decent money; I've seen them go for crazy $ there)

I guess that Dragon will probably not improve the terrible hull of this kit - side armour, which is thicker than the strongest compound armour ever used... New 5 in, 40 mm and 20 mm would be also nice...

Maxim, you are most likely to be correct, with the subject being the ex-HMS Aurora.

I attach a link which seems to be the source of the artwork, or at least has a very great likeness, even to the upright Carley Floats between the 4" AA mounts aft. All that has been added is a seascape and camouflage.

I saw it listed for the first time on US eBay earlier this week.

The hull has never been updated since the very first release of the various kits from these molds. Not only is the armor belt too thick it also extends to the stern which is incorrect. I would not expect them to revise the existing molds. The newer Dragon "premium edition" kits do have the extra AA and 5" mounts from their CV kits and some PE which is a plus. The earlier Oakland release was lacking these upgrades.
