Keep in mind, Steve, that Hobby Search can only post photos of the kit after it's been released, so that doesn't help people who pre-ordered it. That said, as mentioned, the price was a good indicator that one might have considered waiting till it's been released before purchasing.

And the fact that pre-order stops just before release, and the recent practice of limited productions (ie, not many excess stock after pre-order, cases in point - Chiyoda, Hamakaze/Kawakaze) - and given this time the lead time is just under a month, it's essentially a stab in the dark.

The price whilst suspicious, was not telling anything definitive - given previous 5500 ton releases, that had 'armament frets' or '2 kit sets' even containing PE was priced at, you expected the base kit to be below 2000 yen and closer to 1500.

I go by the Rule of "caveat emptor". Essentially all risks are with the buyer. This is especially true of the evil bay site where very close scrutiny of the kit box or contents is mandatory. Having been in the 700 hobby since the very beginning it is easy for me check out the kits offered. On the recent Fujimi CLs there were several posted on Hobby Search with the contents and instructions shown which along with the price confirmed that they were only repops of the original kits. My old notes show Fujimi issued the following CLs in the first round of kits way back when.

#60 Isuzu (Fujimi did the very nice two variations kit recently)

#68 Kinu
#78 Jintsu

The Naka is not in the original listings but it is probably a repop of the Jintsu.

It's actually...totally expected. Yes yes many here don't care about this massive hit that's called 'kantai collection' - an online card collection type game of cute anime girls and ships - but the merchandising frenzy that is happening now is nothing short of amazing (apprels, model kits, kitchenware, even alcohol..)

Aoshima is leading the pack with a bunch of releases of the ships with that game as the theme - what remain of the shizuka 3 - all are involved - with various old tools making a come back in new 'skin' Nagato/Atago/Sendai from Aoshima, Shimakaze from Tamiya, Akagi/Kongo class from Hasegawa (yes the old tool!)

As for the submarines linked, these come from an currently airing show, about alien warmachines taking on the shape of historical warships and calling themselves fleet of Fog. These are some what 'modified' ships to with a new lower hull and some other details to fit the show's depiction.

If anything these products will expand the warship hobby to a largely untapped audience, even if at the cost of some Japanese firms having commercial success without having to do much hard work (hence R&D suffers).

While all the world's warring powers are forced to put aside their differences to fight the alien threat in this anime, how come Italy never ceases to run out of Litttorio class battleships no matter how many are destroyed as you can see in the video excerpt?

So any word on this years future 1/350 releases? Brandon was hinting that we might get 4 capital ships. Hoping for a Maryland, Baltimore, Nelson and some other gem to empty my bank account. Dragon is doing it with tanks.(M103a1, MBT70)
