Heller's 1/100 HMS Victory

Very impressive work mate, I always did like the appearance of those old ships-of-the-line. And you know, it occurs to me that you don't often see these kinds of line-of-battleships waterlined and put into seascapes; at least, I've never seen it done before. Really adds a nice feel to the whole thing, like it's a living vessel and not just a museum display piece.

Completed the standing rigging. I used 4 different diameters of cordage.. Now on to the poop deck bulkheads and her boat booms.

Thanks guys its been quite the build so far... Your Victory is an Inspiration Daniel . I will have to see about getting some of your brass for the hammock nets the kit ones just wont do! I did receive a set of boats from a Revell Constitution that a friend was willing to trade so I can do the ships boats justice.. Capt P.. the model was cut to the waterline and given a slight list to Starboard as that is the direction her sails will be pushing her.. The water is spackle compound build into waves with a coat of liqutex gel medium to seal it. Then a coat of light sea blue acrylic paint and a coat of dark sea blue over top of it.. Then a coat of Liqutex again to give it the wet look and add depth... The white caps are then dry brushed in with a flat white enamel.. This water effect was done several years ago and has held up very well.. I plan to have her just getting underway from the Medway after her great rebuild of 1803. She will have just pulled up her anchor and is gathering way with one Jib sail set her topsails on all three masts and her gaff set... the plan is to have plenty of men on deck at gun practice and working her sails..

Whats the plastic masts/yards like for holding the strain with the rigging, have heard some having trouble.

Hope to start mine soon with Daniels(Dafi) etch parts.

The Wife wants mine to be full hull!!!!.

Capt P the masts are the kit masts to the fighting tops with wooden dowels glued inside . Above the fighting tops and the bowsprit past the dolphin striker they are turned basswood dowels.. I plan to use the kit yardarms were possible but they will be reinforced as well.. Good luck on your build she is a beast of a kit!

I moved to a new house after 25 years... Not fun.. I finally set my hobby shop back up and started back on Victory.. Poop deck thin Bulkheads complete and boat boom nearly complete...

Working on her Kedge and Stream anchors, Rings are too small so replaced with copper wire. These anchors require considerable clean up.

Also the arm could be rounded in the end, thus not to foul the copper plates.

Both bowsers are set and rigged . I will not start the ships boats that will sit on the skids.. Will save the rigging of the stream anchors for after railings are in.

Started on the 34 ft launch.. the kit launch is not even close to 34 ft in this scale... I'm using the launch from Revells Constitutions kit. It still needs 9mm added to get it to 34 ft..

You must have the patience of a saint and the manual dexterity of, well, I don't know what to compare it to. Your shot of Victory with her standing rigging complete is fantastic. Rigging is always the most tedious and challenging part of any build for me and I avoid sailing ships, though I find them beautiful and most impressive, for that reason. You have done Victory proud and I think Horatio would say "job well done"! He might even ask you to kiss him.
