Micro-Mir has announced an upcoming 1/350 USS Nautilus SSN-571 according to Hobby Terra and Hobby Search Japan. Nice to see a growing assortment of plastic Cold War era submarines. Now bring on some 1/350 SSBNs!

My apologies is this has been mentioned before, but Trumpeter is releasing a 1/350 scale HMS Roberts monitor kit. Perhaps this means a 1/700 version is not too far behind?

A few observations have been passed on the subject.

The name on the box will be Roberts - whether the kit itself is her or Ab is a different story.

Steve wrote:I go by the Rule of "caveat emptor". Essentially all risks are with the buyer. This is especially true of the evil bay site where very close scrutiny of the kit box or contents is mandatory. Having been in the 700 hobby since the very beginning it is easy for me check out the kits offered. On the recent Fujimi CLs there were several posted on Hobby Search with the contents and instructions shown which along with the price confirmed that they were only repops of the original kits. My old notes show Fujimi issued the following CLs in the first round of kits way back when.

#55 Nagara
#60 Isuzu (Fujimi did the very nice two variations kit recently)
#65 Natori
#68 Kinu
#78 Jintsu

The Naka is not in the original listings but it is probably a repop of the Jintsu.

Editing welcomed!
This Fujimi WL is good news on the Nagara for me. Thanks for the heads-up. Thinking Tamiya was all that was out there. Sold out of course, but it's on my wish list for follow-up. Need 'flotilla command' for the 1/700 DD Harusame presently in build (1st Battle of Guadalcanal).

What about them?

1/700 BB-44 1944 is being released under Pit-Road in Japan first, and is available starting today: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10250639

Same goes for 1/700 Warspite 1942: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10250640

As for the Tsarevitch Russian battleship, status remains ETA Unknown, as I note on my list...

:woo_hoo:
There are 2 main rules at Trumpeter:

1 - Not all, but most of what we release in 1/350 will come later in 1/700 too
(but why ever rarely to never in the other direction from 1/700 to 1/350 ... and that is lame :Tirade: )

2 - If there exists a sister ship in history of the released model, we will make not always but mostly too ... minimum 1 of them if more as 1 sistership existing.

So Yes, there are no big informations beside rumors until now, but that HMS Roberts in 1/700 will come too is very possible in my opinion ... as well as HMS Abercrombie too. :-)

Because then they actually have to put some work in and add details to the CAD model.

Unfortunately you are so damned right Timmy ... :dead:

But when I see what all of, for me very interesting ships are existing in 1/700 ... a scale far too small for me ... but completely missing even as rumors in 1/350, I can really get wet eyes. :wave_1:

Of course, that's not to say they never scale up 1/700 kits for 1/350 production - examples include the Kirovs and Slavas of the modern Russian navy.

Nisshin is also out. Somewhat disappointing that Aoshima just reused hull from Chiyoda - Nisshin was longer and wider. So looks like the Pitroad himold kit lives on.

Very disappointing, I'd say. Have you seen the kit? I'm kind of surprised at Aoshima; maybe I shouldn't be?

I think it is is a growing trend, unfortunately. In Japan, people have less and less time, and this affects both the demand for kits (consumers are less willing to spend money on kits that take time to build, or extra parts from 3rd parties to complete) and the producers (less effort per kit) in opposite manner.
The unfortunate experimentations that result can be seen in the re-release of the old Fujimi IJN light cruiser kits, the re-release of the old Fujimi 1/700 aircraft kits at 4 times the previous price, and the attempt by Aoshima to save on costs---I would like 500 JPY per hour of hull sanding back please. Let's see how it plays out, my view is that foreign companies have a good chance of making inroads into the Japanese market even further until the local companies see the light and update their business processes to get better quality out at the same or reduced costs.
On the resin side, consumers are more interested in high-quality kits that do not need anything in the way of extra PE purchase and such-like. Good for Admiralty Model Works, newer Corsair Armada, Combrig, Regia Marina and Blue Ridge Model kits, not so good for those older releases.

Thank goodness 'never-were' ships are an exception to this. We're still selling resin 'craftsman' kits of cancelled and projected warships 20 years later and we'll be announcing the next all-new one in a few months.

Thanks!

Just seen this....http://www.boystownmilitaryminiatures.c ... 50551.aspx I'dve thought an upcoming release of a 1/200 HMS Hood would cause a fair bit of noise or is it not confirmed yet?
