The T-1 foremast is not really quite like a Kagero, more like a Matsu, with a shorter foreleg top above the junction pt., and the rear legs tipping forward of vertical.

Re: Calling all IJN landing transport ship fans.
I found this picture of a bombed SB (T103) class landing ship - is this ship camouflaged or does it look like that just because of fire and damage?redoctober27 wrote:Hey guys, silly question but was the T101 class landing ships ever panted green like some of the marus ? I ask this because on wiki there are a few pics of this class and one of the ships to me looks like it might have a paint sceme on it. Any thoughts?

Good question, though it certainly looks like camo to me at the rear.

It does look camo to me too. I just ordered this ship and can't wait to build it.

Sirpaul,
I found an intertesting thread about lst's on a Russian forum. I cann't read the language so don't know what is being discussedd or what information is posted, but the informatio is provided and used to build a model of a T class landing ship. My impression is that it provides very good and very complete information about this type of warship. It has many pictures, plans and it shows how the model progresses based on this information. This is the url to the main page but I have not yet found out how then to find this subject. http://tsushima.su/EN/newsen go to forums or http://tsushima.su/forums I found it on google and the following url connects directly to a page of this thread. http://www.google.nl/imgres?imgurl=http ... rQMwBjjIBg

Thanks Berend, Good stuff. Already did all the Armor that comes with the kit. Now to the kit it's self. I plan on waterlining it so that will be the next step.

Re: Calling all IJN landing transport ship fans.
Hey guys I have a question about the t1 model Jguideese transport ships. I am currently building the older Tamyia kit and was using jeff lins build as a guide during the building process. however I have noticed throughout various pictures that there seems to be differentvariations of the t1 landing ship. there seems to be a different styles of the t1 landon ship each one having a different mass, some laking the type 13 rader, exhaust ports in the hull, and bridge differcnes. can anyone help differentiate between the different styles of t1 landing ships and point out what variation is closest to the kit and if Jeff Lin's model is accurate. Thank you im trying to do a leyte 1944 representation if this helps.

Hmm, this might be a new set of details. Well, if I get time, I can take a look at my materials.

Re: Calling all IJN landing transport ship fans.
I haven't really been able to pick out the differences, other than mounting a Type 13 radar which, I would think, would be mounted by the time of the Leyte Gulf. That isn't to say there aren't differences; these were built by two different yards (Kure & Mitsubishi) so differences are possible, as are subtle improvements to later ships.
Can you post your photos of some of the more obvious differences?

Re: Calling all IJN landing transport ship fans.
OK now ill post the pics again but this time showing the differences circled in yellow .. notice some lacking the type 13 radar, exhaust ports in the hull, some have and some seem plated over. bridge differences can be seen as well as the bow looks different and rear AA platform. Hopefully differentiate between the different styles of No.1 landing ships can be seen. I find it interesting there is so many variations but that's the Japanese for you. If anyone have any other pictures of the No.1 landing ships or them at Omroco bay 1944 that would be awesome. I am most interested in the mast as in mast construction skills are questionable lol. But if there is a photo-etch piece I could use like the matsu kit, it would make life easier but such is the ways of a modeler.

Ok, Dom, see if these help. I will try to scan a better version of the T-1 pic above at some point as well.

Yes! So it dose look like the twin mount is surrounded by metal plates and the singles mounts are then just railing and when its has the canvas ties on the rails, it looks like metal plates (due to the photo being black and white) just like on the destroyers! Thanks Dan! Im assuming it would be like this on all T1 landing ships of this class?

Hard to say. I would think the later the commission/refit, the more likely shielding is put in place.

Despite the 25mm being covered with tarps, I'd say the T-1 does not have shielding. But, the post war ship does. Your choice.

Re: Calling all IJN landing transport ship fans.
Sounds good to me! Do you know why some of the T1s have those big air vent things under the twin 25mm mount in the front of the bridge and others dont?

I'm not sure I know exactly what you are referring to.
