Does anybody have a reliable site to make sure I get the right number of planes?
As mentioned above, 16 B-25Bs on the flight deck. If you want to be super accurate, you'll need to delete the bottom ball turrent on those planes.

Here's a good thread with tons of USS Hornet info! viewtopic.php?f=46&t=4866
"Also we will never see a 1/350 late war Enterprise from Dragon due to a paralyzing fear of success...." - Heavy Melder

Lots of unfinished model ships + attention issues = A busy slipway where nothing gets done!

The info out of the Terzibaschitsch "Aircraft Carriers of the United State Navy" list the following Airwing on board Hornet CV-8 for the Doolittle Raid:

VF-8 18 F4F Wildcats ( I think that they were the F4F-4s with folding wings)
VB-8 16 SBD Dauntless
VT-8 15 TBD Devastator
VS-8 16 SBD Dauntless

16 B-25s on Deck

Everything I have read about the operation indicates that Hornet took her full airwing and kept them in the hangar bay for contingency ops in case they were discovered prior to the B-25 launch.

I beleive that the aircraft would have been painted intermediate blue over gray with the red centered round insignia and red and white striped rudders I believe that the navy changed to the "Midway" colors after the Battle of Coral Sea. Perhaps someone can chime in with a definative call on that one.

Good Luck,

Mark

Thanks Fellas. Looks like I'll be moving in up here at my mom's :eyes_spinning: Hopefully things'll settle down and I can get back into the slipways again sometime soon....
It's been a week now since dad passed away and it still hasn't quite hit me, I keep waking up thinking he's gonna holler at me. I know, when it does hit me.... I'll know.

Here is a Very good link to the Gerald R Ford, I was going to post a couple of pics from the site, but there are too many good ones, Does not look like a Nimitz hull, the bow area looks totally different.

Well fellas, I just lost my eldest niece Friday night. She was killed in a head on collison. Some 69 yr old gal swerved into her lane of traffic.

Thanks fellas, I don't like to hijack a thread but, y'alls like family to me so, thought I'd inform ya'll that my slappin' plastic's on hold due to circumstances beyond my control... I do believe God has taken my niece from us because HE needs her help since she's the only one who can keep my dad in line... LoL. Yep, I do believe that
